My non-Navy son had "growing pains" in his legs when growing up.  Very painful.  I think letting our children grow up provides us moms with growing pains that are just as painful...sometimes for our children as well.  What is great about the Navy is that there is "someone" watching out for them as they grow up.  My son likes to say that the Navy "owns" him.  I remind him that the Navy also provides for him...which he totally agrees with.  It is like you are lending your children to the Navy to continue the job with your children that you started.  Hopefully, they will learn so much in the Navy that by the time they come out, they are well on their way to be very independent people.

Angel:  Sundays and holidays are their "down" days where they have more free time.  They are able to go to church services if they wish and usually write letters.  They still have their chores, etc...but there is no training, etc.

Try to remember that in bootcamp:  NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!

RWG:  Thanks for sharing that story about the RDC having a quiet talk with the crying SR.  So many times, the RDCs get a "bum rap" because of their yelling, etc.  But your story showed that they have hearts and want these SRs to succeed.  Thanks for sharing that with the ladies on here!

to Donna646--

i understand that pain.  it's almost worse than labor and delivery.  stabbing.

but it is his way of growing up--and i guess the alternative (them living at home till they are 50) is way worse.

My son called his girlfriend last night. I'm crushed. I understand they love each other very much. But, it doesn't make it any easier.

We got our first "real" letter yesterday!!!  YIPPEEE!!!!  He was very upbeat and still has his great sense of humor!!!  Said he misses his privacy, but the food is good!!!  He ended it with, "GOOOOO NAVY" and "SMOOOTH SAILING".....my heart is bursting with pride!!!

Angela W-Sailor Mom

I think they get 5 hours on Sundays. My son said that he doesnt write letters the whole time. He said he shined his boots and studied etc. I believe their free time is fro 8am to 1pm central time. They can also go to church during that free time.

Awwwh.. hang in there RedRobin..our momma hearts & prayers go out to you...

Lord we ask that you would bring this lovely daughter miracle encouragement from the perfect person. I pray that this week, you will bring her a new friend to walk through all this with.. One who is perfectly encouraging, uplifting and supporting ... by your hand God..!  In Jesus Name

And I just bet she was the young girl that always showed her feelings to her mom, but always showed everyone else the smile of endurance on the outside. I bet her talk with you the other day, was just her letting loose her feeling to the only person she could because she was so busy keeping it from everyone else. Remember when they were little and had a tough day, when they would see their mom that would break down and cry..!!  Try to focus on the positive, you raised a strong balanced women and she is strong and will find a way to pull up her boot straps and prevail with success! I agree a few good letters with some major pep talks in from mom will lift her up quickly.

~so wishing we had the perfect words for you..~  momma hugs to you..  sunnyb
