We stayed at the Navy Lodge and it was great for us. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and we had a room with 2 queen beds and a kitchen for $65 a night. We could beat that price. We had 13 div graduating and left the hotel (diving) at 6:30 and we were in parked, through the check-in and in the PIR hall by about 7:35. It didn't seem bad at all. I think those who drive think that is the best way to go and those who take the shuttle think that is the best. I don't know of anyone who has been twice and done it both ways. My best advice for those driving onto the base is to check out the streets the day or evening before PIR. The far right lane is where everyone will line up to get on the base. However, that lane ends and everyone must merge left. That definitely adds to your wait time. So, don't get in that far right lane, stay to the left of it and you will save yourself a lot of wait time.

No, bussinbier:  It is not inconvenient to drive.  There seems to be positive for both driving yourself and the shuttle.  You just need to get an earlier start if driving.  With only 9 divisions in this PIR group, it shouldn't be bad though. You probably need to be in the car line by a little after 6 a.m.  They start allowing people on base by 6:30.

I reserved a room at a hotel that does not offer shuttle service.  Does anybody know if it is really inconvenient to drive to graduation in a rental car?  Any experts out there?

We haven't finalized our arrangements for the weekend either.  Hoping to nail it down in the next couple of days.  Were hoping for that phone call this weekend, but not so far.

pianomom:  If you need 2 bedrooms but want to stay in the same suite, the Residence Inn Waukegan may work for you.  2 bdrm 2 bath, full kitchens.  Free hot buffet breakfast, and yes, they have the PIR shuttle.  $3/pp each way.  Sailor can return with you (if not moving over to GL A School right after PIR).  They also have studio suites if you want separate places.

ladies--i am trying to do my research to find adequate lodging for 4 adults for PIR.  I have read pretty much everything on this site.  does anybody have inside info on it? we will be arriving in a rental car, but want to shuttle to and from the base.  what places would offer the shuttle service for pay?

thanks all

Donna, I know exactly how you feel! My son's girlfriend is very special but she does not have that special bond that mothers and sons do.  I have a feeling that your son's first call will be to you, his momma.  I'll be praying for you.

Thank you Meryl. I hope he calls me. My heart will break if he calls his girlfriend and not me. But, I will hide it. She's a good girl and loves my son very much. It's hard when your only child finds some one he loves and you are no longer his number one lady.
