Here in GA, the highs have been near 100 for a couple of weeks.  We got a wonderful storm last night.  We needed the rain sooooooo much.  When I was a kid, we lived in IL for a while.  Being an AL girl, I hated all of the snow and cold, but, being a menopausal old lady now, I'm looking forward to the cooler temps.  Just think girls, this time next week, we'll be hugging the stuffing out of our sailors!!! For the moms who can't make it to PIR, we'll hug the stuffing out of yours too.  There's always enough "mom hugs" to go around.

piano mom, I am not sure about your airline tickets but most of the hotels up there are very accommodating and will allow you to cancel reservations up until hours before check in time on the day of your arrival. I hope he gets better quickly and I will keep him in my prayers.

to meryl--did you say your son is sick or injured?  has he been moved to another ship?  we have no clue if our son is still with the other guys or not.  his letter dated june 1 had a return address as ship 11 div 203, but by now, who knows?

o, ladies!!  despite my sadness and what MIGHT be our son's last days in the military (worst case scenario) or set back (not the worst case scenario), YOU ALL MAKE ME LAUGH SO HARD!!!   chasing the mail lady through the neighborhood is great!!  and i thought I was weird!  i drove 3 miles to the post office last night to mail our letter when i realized that i had been so depressed about our son that i had forgotten to write him for a couple of days.  you are right--they need to hear from home.

my husband said this morning that when he gets home at some point, we should make him read all the posts on this site and see all the support out there for SRs all over the world.

to diannep--please refresh my memory--even though our son said that he has pneumonia and also that he wonders if he will be separated because of the floating thing, we are not to do anything UNTIL he actually calls to tell us not to come?  how late might that happen?  i don't want to get charged for motel rooms and the rental car.  thanks, dear

So, I got a letter from my son afterall yesterday. Becasue I am in a boot and crutches I sent my 7 y.o. to the mailbox. Somehow, it was pushed to the back and she didn't see it. Thank God my husband always checks the mailbox when he gets home. We got home from karate last night and my husband was pointing to a letter from my son and i was just in shock!!!!!  But, everything in the letter was old news b/c it was written last week and I talked to him since then.

  I have religiously mailed him a letter every day. But, yesterday I did not make it to the mailbox in time. I was so upset that I asked my mom to come over and get my letter and put it in her mailbox for me (it is a taxing effort for me to get around right now and she only lives 1/2 mi. away). She drove over, got the letter and when she got back home, the mail lady had just been there. So, she called to tell me the bad news. I told her to FIND HER!!!! So my poor mom had to drive through the neighborhood and chase the mail lady and hand her over the letter. My God, my poor boy needs his mail! What a mother (and grandmother) won't do to see that he gets it!!)  If he only knew.

Yes, dianne, you're right.  The important thing is that he gets well.  He can graduate at a later date.  His letter was so sad.  I've never heard him so "down".  He told me he had set high goals for himself and is so disappointed that he isn't able to fulfill them as he had hoped. I'll just keep on writing those letters and try to give him encouragement.  Thanks for your encouragement!

Thanks, KC'smom.  I forgot that Jeff told me (a month ago) that he was disappointed that he couldn't graduate when President Obama was there.  Hmm...I'm not happy he's sick but he is a big supporter of the President and I guess if he gets to see the President it would cheer him up a lot. Thanks for reminding me and for your good wishes.  Prayers continuing for your and your son's healing.

Thank you for your kind words and prayers, Linda.  That would be so COOL if our sons were bunkmates.  I'll ask Jeff if his bunkmate is Jake.  Will you ask Jake if Jeff has been sick most of the time?  That might give us a better indication if they're bunkmates.
