My sailor called me from Chicago on Saturday.  He and some buddies went sight-seeing.  He is enjoying his weekend liberty and the freedom to eat as much candy as he wants! lol

Audrey - Congradulations on your new Sailor!  I am so glad that he made it.

squeekerz -  I'm glad that you and your SR are happy and will be together soon.

My husband, back in the eighties, was sent to the fleet to await his A school.  He never did go, because he had made friends and didn't want to leave his ship.  So he elected to stay where he was, slinging cargo on a supply ship in the Med. Ocean.  I don't know if they still send you out to the fleet to work while waiting for your school to open up.  We did warn our son that this could happen.

Okay....let me clarify....I should have said that she might be in Chicago for a year INCLUDING school, lol!  I believe ATT and A school combined is around 6-7 months, but some times they have to wait anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months for each one to start...and then there is C school, with perhaps another wait time.  I've read comments from some Moms that said their FCs were in Chicago for a year to 18 months!  She was so happy to get the rating she wanted, but is disappointed with having to wait!  She cannot stand to sit still for more than a minute!

Joy125-that's terrible. What will she do for a year? Oh my. I think they need to stop recruiting so many for a while or have the older ones retire.

Joy125--what in the world?  what school is she supposed to be in? is that the NAVY?  wow!  what will she do for a year or more?  didn't know that kind of stuff was going on!

my husband just said that he wonders since the war in afghanistan is winding down, will there be an overage of sailors.

Congrats Audrey!!  So happy to hear your news!  I know it's such a relief for you!  It's so much better when they get out of BC, for everyone!

Donna....you guys are sooooo lucky!  My daughter's school has been put on hold so it looks like she is going to be in Chicago for a long, long time!  Maybe a year or more =(

Audrey-congrats!!! That is great news.

Jpy-I am looking forward to going to Pensacola. Our boat lives in a Marina in Tarpon Springs. It will be nice to see waht some other beaches look like in this grat state. My son would of been so bummed out if he had to stay in Great Lakes. He said he missed Florida. But, he is only here for two months.

He starts A school on Monday.
