OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Lisa:  Some may get to call home as an award for something they did well, but during division calls, they try to give as many as possible time to call.  However, some could have "watch", be SIQ which means they can't participate, or have an appt on the base elsewhere.  So inevitably, some will miss the calls.  Many RDCs allow them to call later (my son was able to do this after he had watch once when he was at Bootcamp....he called that night).

Question for veteran moms: When several SRs from the same division are making calls home, does that mean every SR in that division is allowed  a phone call or they are selected individually? Just curious since some of us havent recieved calls in weeks.

Good Morning from California.  Ladies, it's certainly been a pleasure and a great support to be a part of this lovely group of Moms of SR's.  I don't comment much as I have not heard from my SR in 4 weeks.  So happy for all of you who have recieved letters and phone calls.  Hearing your news and witnessing your happiness is enough to fill my heart with faith..  Prayers for all of our SR's.

Yes, Shiloh:  It is the IPass that you can "rent" from the car place....you pay for it, but it may be worth not worrying about change if you plan to drive around in the Chicago area alot.  I think they are going to "toll by plate" in that area, which means photo of your tag and fee mailed to you, but not sure that is in place yet.  Sarge has info on this if you want to text/call/email him.  He would know the current situation with tolls in the Chicago area....847 212-0246 or
