Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

We have not registered for Sarges meet n Greet. We arrive in IL thurs afternoon and my husband& I want to explore and site see with our 2 daughters without being on the clock. Just do what we wanna do bec we're both always on such tight schedules.but Im feeling torn, like Im going to really be missing out if we dont attend the meet & greet. Ugh, cant decide ;/
Thank you ladies who have had such great questions lately & to the veteran moms for sharing their knowledge. They were questions I didnt think to ask and i found to be very helpful.
I too am beside myself counting the days when I can hug my handsome "sailor". It is such a short window of time but I will have his graduation from A school to look forward to just the same. Just so proud of our sons and daughters for choosing to serve! God bless them!

Love reading all of your comments and thoughts.. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one super excited about graduation and yet sad that he ships off to sub school the next day.

I read somewhere that we need to register for Sarge's event but now I can't find the post. I didn't really pay attention the first time as we thought we wouldn't be able to make it.

Just booked at the Ramada. We were a little late booking because we wanted to make sure our SR would make it through. He did spend about 4 weeks on crutches during his time at RTC Great Lakes. So excited. Anyone else at the Ramada. I also had a wonderful coworker swap nights with me so that we can leave early Thursday morning.....no we can make it to Sarge's event..

TMansMom--are you on Facebook too? If so, there is a PIR 6-20-14 Navy Boot Camp site. The person who owns unique memory makers , Lora, is on there and you can probably contact her that way. She did post some that she is currently working on and said that she works on them in order of PIR date. I ordered mine on May 17 and should be getting mine soon.

ladybug, Absolutely feel the same way. My son will be leaving for sub school on Sat as well. We are planning on going to the airport to sit with him before he leaves. I told my husband we can sleep when we get home. I will be at the airport at 12:30 am if he is there. I am just looking forward to Friday not thinking about him leaving again. The big difference is he will has his phone back so we can communicate and text more often. The silence is the hardest part for me. I miss him so much but could not be more proud of him. The first hug is going to be a BIG one.

17 more days! I am soo excited, but I can't help but still feel sad because I know he'll probably be leaving for sub school the next day... My excitement outweighs that right now though. :) Anyone else feel like this?
