Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

You could look at it this way. The ex is going to have to make her own travel arrangements and hotel and transportation and everything. If she is not taking his calls do you think she will go to the trouble and expense of going? You could also ask your son to write her a letter and invite her himself.

Good morning ladies :)
Tmansmom: my SR is in 204, its been 2 wks since he last called. Im like u, praying I get a call, just bec I miss him. I love hearing how hes doing.
I rvcd a letter yesterday that he passed IT
(intense training). This letter was really short and he asked me to contact his exgirlfriend to invite her to PIR, saying she could sit in the chapel. Although hes doing extremely well in bc, hes also exremeley homesick. I dont want exgirlfriend there. This is such special important& meaningful to our family & shes an "ex" to boot. Shes never been avail to take any of his calls. My phone is with me 24/7. I write him 2x a week.
HOW SHOULD I RESPOND TO HIS REQUEST?

For those of you looking for a special gift for your SR-soon-to-be-Sailor, I got a couple of these Challenge Coins for my Sailor daughter when she graduated PIR last year, please check out www.pirgifts.com. Challenge Coins are a military tradition. Craig, who is one of the veterans on Navy for Moms, designed the ones that are connected to the ships at RTC. The name of your SR's ship is right next to the ship number in the Discussion Forum. When you click on one of the coins, you will be taken to a page where there is a video about Challenge Coins. This would be a special gift especially connected to their Boot Camp days! Another really sharp coin is the Core Value one--it has cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge. These coins are no longer given out by the Navy to the Sailors, so it is up to friends and famiily. My Sailor daughter thought her USS Hopper (Ship 03) coin was "cool."

Look up in the Discussion Forum. The ship's name is right after the ship number--in your case, Ship 13 is the Marvin Shields.
Also www.pirgifts.com at eBay is the site of one of our N4M veterans who designed the Challenge Coins associated with RTC Boot Camp!

Shaula, yes I bought my son one. They are neat to have. My hubby has been in for 28 years and has 600 of them from different commands. People collect them. They even sell nice wood racks for them to stand up in. The one has Great Lakes on one side and then their ship on other.
