OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Alli'sMom:  Welcome to the group!  Please read through the PAGES section, above and to the right, for lots of info!  By the way, are you anywhere near the San Diego area?  If so, you may want to attend a MeetandGreet that Lala Ribbon Queen (one of our N4Moms veterans) will be having there in early June.

Good Morning Everyone!

LisaPNM we are going to the cubs game Saturday Night.  My daughter will already be gone off to Pensecola so we decided to stay an extra night and take in the game.  My husband is a huge Cubs fan.  The game is at 6:15pm so plenty of time to see my daughter off at the airport that morning. But I think depending on what time she has to be back our Plan A is to take the train into Chicago and Go to the Navy Pier.  I'm working on Plan B if she has to be back early.  I've heard all kinds of times, one lady told me her son had to be back by 5pm.  That definitely does't leave time for a trip into the Chicago.  I wish we knew way ahead how long we really had with the ones that are leaving the next day for A school.  But hey...we will roll with the flow!  :-)

We wanted to attend a baseball game in Chicago Friday afternnon...after hearing about the heavy traffic and the possible wait time for your SR after PIR, guess we better think of a plan B. Thank you ladies for the Q & A. Much much appreciated!

Just putting this idea out there for your group.  It is totally voluntary.  Some of our past PIR groups have gotten together and put together State themed gift baskets/boxes/bags or really, any great idea would work, to be raffled off at Sarge's Meet & Greet on the Thursday evening before PIR.  This is great fun and would help offset the costs of Sarge and his wife as they do these meet and greets every week to help our Navy families.  If someone would like to start a Basket Project for this group, please let Sarge know and start a Basket Project discussion up in the Discussion Forum for the ladies here to pop into to express their interest~~  Thank you~

Thanks for clarifying the "right away" for me diannep. I need to be more clear, to me, an hour or so is right away. I had to wait a little over four hours for my son after graduation, since he stayed in GL for A School.
