OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Apparently my daughter tried to call me yesterday but didn't get through.  I dont' have a missed call so not sure what happen.  She did get through to a friend who filled me in on how she's doing.  I am told she was promoted to E2.  Is the Educational Petty Officer and is the Alpha Female.  Not quite sure what Alpha Female means but her friend said that she will be getting special privledges.  I was really hoping for a call today for Mother's Day but just relieved to hear she's doing well. If anyone knows what it means to be the Alpha Female, I would appreciate some insite.  Thank you and Happy Mother's Day to all the Navy Mom's out there.

Woke up to snow and more falling, but it is a beautiful day!

Comment by Moonwillow on May 11, 2014 at 8:43am

What a beautiful day. It is rainy but I love the rain so it is perfect. I taught my kids to love the rain so I makes me feel close to them even when they are not here. We used to dump all legos out, put in a good movie, order pizza and have fabulous play days when the weather was bad.  And giggle at the thunder.

Here's to a memory filled mothers day to you all
