Welcome to PIR 06/22/2012

OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

diannep- Thank you for your wisdom and experience. As so many of us are new to this "life" is great that we have those like yourself to help us along this path..

There are ways to avoid the toll roads too. If you have a smart phone use the navigation app, it seemed to be spot on in giving direction when we were there. You just have to tell it avoid tolls.

mumof4:  As far as the final PFA for your division, could be anytime this week.

We N4Moms veterans always caution you all to be careful what you post here and on FB.  For some reason, ladies think FB is much more secure...but it really isn't.  Even as a closed group.  Anyone can pose as a PIR member with an SR at bootcamp and gain entry to either site.  So...it would really be better to stay on N4Moms since there is lots of info here.  Go on RTC FB site too....because there is lots of info there....but be careful posting there (remember, last names are exposed) and joining smaller groups on there.

Having said that, this is a site for support for families/friends with SRs at bootcamp.  Rule of thumb is:

NO SRs' last names are permitted on here

We prefer you don't use their first names either...just for identity purposes

...and....when you receive a letter/call from your SR, please share on here...but specific personal info passed along should be shared by private message.  The RDCs do read these sites and can hassle the SRs a bit depending on how personal you all post on here.  So before you hit that "ADD COMMENT" button to post, please re-read your post and make sure your SR would be ok with what you are sharing!  :-)

flgirltwo, thank you posting that warning about OPSEC.  It is very true that some RDC's will check on FB and on this site to see what it being divulged.  As you said, the best way to avoid getting your SR in trouble is to keep last names off here.  When my son was in BC, I sent him his contact lenses for PIR and the first thing that his RDC asked him when the package arrived was who told him that he could wear them.  (Btw, they are allowed to wear contact lenses on PIR and the ladies are allowed a small touch of makeup, and but have to put the contacts and makeup  away until PIR day).  Anyway, getting back to my son's story, the RDC said "Oh I bet you heard that on N4M's."  But, the funny part about it was that I actually read it on the Recruit Training Command Facebook page, so the ladies on here were not the source, lol.  He didn't get in any trouble for receiving them, but the RDC's just had to watch him open the package to see what was in it.

Single digits Mom's!  WooHoo!  I know how excited you must all be getting!  One quick thought!  Don't forget to take lots of change with you!  Chicago is big on tolls!  They don't all have attendants, they don't all take visa/mc, they don't all take bills, we drove through one because we didn't have $1.50 in change.  They give you 7 days online to pay back (so make sure you write down the toll # that you drive through) or they charge you $100.  If you've rented a car without the IPass, they will charge the card you rented the car with!  So just take a baggie of change!  We had tolls of 65 cents up to 1.90.

Hi!  Was just talking to my sailor last night and he was telling us stories of PO's that found information on FB or their Mom's FB and caused problems for the sailors!  I won't go into depth, but won't post my sailors name or info for sure!  And if you FB your sailor and they see that a reply was given during "working" hours, they will be in trouble!   It's amazing the stories he told us!  But it's behaviour, OPSEC and know they do check!

Oh and Div. 932 should be on day 6/2 today!

diannep - hoping to get a letter today (Wednesdays are my letter day from "the boy").  I've asked him several times to let me know when they are.....I am thinking you were probably correct with your estimate that you gave me the other day.  Can't imagine it being any other day, unless they went through with two other divisions earlier.   Can you tell me how far ahead of that the final PFA is?  I would like to be able to breathe a little bit knowing that was over and done with!  :)
