They did, they had to wait 2 weeks!
Julie - 3 weeks? My boy has only been gone 2 weeks and 1 day .... Your poor husband must have been waiting for a division to fill up..... :( I guess I'm glad my SR got in a division right away so we can have the early PIR! :)
Good morning, everyone!
flights and everything booked! so excited!
If anyone else wants to reserve their room at the Navy Lodge you can call the one in Great Lakes and they will let you reserve the room in someone's name and then pay with cash if you prefer. Or at least that is what we did :-)
Devon, thanks for the friend request. I sent you a message. We are neighbors :-)
Some SRs don't like their pictures and don't want to order them. Others think they are too expensive. In previous PIR groups, some ladies have made appts in the Great Lakes area for their sailor to get their pictures taken after PIR when they are in uniform. Cheaper and they can pose as they want. Just an idea if anyone thinks the photo pkg prices are a bit steep.
I'm afraid my SR will NOT purchase pictures, even though I sent him a letter informing him that I wanted him to..... will see since no letters back yet! Also, I reserved 2 rooms at Navy Lodge for our weekend at PIR. They were wonderful. When they asked me his pay grade, I laughed and said the lowest! Turned out the reservation person was in Florida, but was raised in Michigan and knew where we lived! Very nice.....the only thing they required was that the person whose credit card it was reserved under had to be there at time of checkin which was no problem since it was me.! :)
Here is my spiel on the Navy Lodge:
Here is some additional info on the Navy Lodge:
I stay military when I can...hubby has been AF Reserves for 27 years, son is the Sailor...so I have dependant ID. You don't need it for this Navy Lodge. You tell them it is for PIR and they may ask for your Recruits Name and Rate (Navy enlisted have "rate" not rank...it coincides with their pay grade E-1 to E-9 for enlisted. E-3 is the highest rate they can "rank up" too in BC). They may also ask you to bring them by to verify...but I always forget if that is enforced.
It is clean, I did not get a kitchenette as those are first come first serve. We had to queens and a rollaway.TV with DVD player, microwave, small fridge etc. Had nice furniture and a lobby with a fireplace. Hot coffee 24/7. Vending machines (variety...even one with alcohol! You have to get tokens at the desk for this.) Coin laundry, You can buy Computer time (these look exactly like the ones I saw in Recruit phone Computer room at the NEX) and pay for printer usage. Computers are in front of the elevators on each floor. WiFi has a charge. They do not have a Shuttle Service...but you can ask to arrange for a taxi...again here is where Sarge can come in handy!(SARGE AT 847-212-0246)
Lobby has DVD's for rent, post cards and a Curio with some Navy items for sale. They will give you a temporary pass to use at the small NEX down the road...there is also a gas station (don't need a pass for that).
It runs about $65.00 a night...no tax.
Here is a pic of the pass (courtesy of Craig):
They do a brown bag breakfast daily...was great for PIR. Bagel, cream cheese, chewy granola bar and large OJ...all in this bag:
Was great for PIR! I don't have pictures of the outside...only our messy hotel room!
The NL is about 1.5 miles from RTC. It is not on base but it is in some of the base housing area
