Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The admins on the FB PIR 7-03-13 Group are as strict as they are here lol
I spend a lot of time retyping info in personal messages! It's great though it's much more personal though I must admit the FB group is very easy to navigate. I'm still trying to figure this one out. Being the foster mom to a 7 year old and 15 year old takes up major time during my day making it difficult to find the time to really "learn" this site. But we keep trying:)

NaVyMoM, BS is usually Mon-Thur and they can start BS on Sunday, but we don't see it very often.

I got a letter from my sailor today! She said that she gets to give blood. They get junk food for doing that! She said that the food was pretty good, but the ketchup is horrible. We're from the Pittsburgh area & only use Heinz! She can't wait to see us for graduation. I can't wait to see what she looks like. She said that she's getting new NWUs on Tuesday which is good because she needs to go down another size!

lisamark: It is still possible that calls will come before the I'm a Sailor calls, but with this group starting those calls in about a week, you may have to wait. Always have phones handy just in case...they can always "earn" calls! :-)

I got a letter from my son today. He isn't doing great but is on track to graduate he says. For some reason he hasn't been getting our letters but I hope he receives them all this week when he may need them the most. He is just looking forward to graduating and being done soon. I cannot wait until July 3rd.
