~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Yes, Tammy, that is where we stayed.  My parents went with us, so we had a 2 bedroom suite.  It was perfect for us.  The shuttles leave at different times, so you just tell them at check in when you want to leave for PIR.  We took the earliest one and were close to the front of the line at ceremony.  Then, afterwards, you just walk out and they are all lined up, waiting to take you wherever you want to go.  Much easier than driving.

Annette, are you referring to the Courtyard by Marriott which is 5 miles from the base? If so, that's where I am staying. A little pricier but I've heard good reviews. Thanks for the advice on the shuttle! Does it run at various times or just once there and once after PIR??

Dianne, my phone is attached to me at ALL times!! :)

We stayed at the Courtyard last August and loved it.  I tried to stay there again, but they did not have a room available to suit my traveling companions this time.  The breakfast was very good and they had a reception the Thursday before PIR, which I guess would be Tuesday night this time.  We picked up our son each morning from base and he would eat breakfast with us, as did many other Sailor families.  They also had shuttle service, which I would recommend everyone look into.  The line of cars to get into the ceremony is so long, but the shuttles just go right up to the gate and drop you off.  The most important thing I learned that day is TAKE A SHUTTLE!!!

Near Holiday Express, which CatMom stayed at and loved, is also the Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, and Residence Inn.  All are good hotels and we have received good feedback from them.  Waukegan/Gurnee.

MilitaryMom:  I know it helps you so much to have so many "Navy connections" in your life to draw from.  That is why I think you will be such an asset to this group!  You can calm the fears because you have been in yourself, are a Navy spouse, have a son at bootcamp, etc.  I think you pretty much have all of the feelings that there are to have!  :-)

I have a questoin for the veteran members:  My daughter called yesterday.  I was so happy when I saw the area code, until I answered and she was crying.  It was related to her security clearance interview and I didn't want to give out too many details.  She is going into CTI.  Who and how do you think it would be best to direct my question?  It is so hard to know that she is so worried about it and I cannot talk to her more about it.  I am hoping she is just making a much bigger deal of it than she should and it will all be better this next week.

Last year, I reserved my rooms at the Ramada, as did a lot of the other families with the same PIR date.  We then started reading reviews on it, and all of us changed to other motels.  There was one review with a family memeber getting head lice, they believed from that hotel.  Maybe they have done some renovations since then, as this was last summer, but just thought I should warn everyone to read the reviews before you decide.  Maybe there are some reviews from others who have stayed there more recent, too.  I reserved my room at the Holiday Inn Express.  It is further away, but still not a bad drive.  It took us 20 minutes at the most to get our son back to base.

Tammy:  The calls can come any day, any time, so be ready!  You will feel married to that phone during bootcamp, but it is worth it!  Don't leave it for a moment...even in the bathroom or when getting mail.

I see where a lot of SR's got to call home yesterday. Are they allowed to call home on Sundays? I'm on pins and needles waiting for that first call!

Tysmom, I also have my youngest son graduating from high school this week and can relate to the double emotional roller coaster ride. We will get through this though!

Awwww, militarymom.  So sorry about that....but what a reason to miss that call!  Wow.  I hope you bombard him with letters now...I'm sure when he hears why you had your phone away from you for that time, he will understand....here's hoping he gets to call again soon.  At least you have his voice on your voicemail now and can hear it when you want to!  Hugs to you and to him....can't wait for that sad voice of his to be replaced with a huge smile in his sailor uniform at PIR!  What a special celebration that will be!

sandy:  Too funny!  So glad you received the call that time.  Funny how all of us get annoyed with people not using "phone etiquette" but when it comes to a military member calling, there are no rules for phone etiquette!  We are all thrilled!

TysMom:  Most SRs are a bit homesick and "in shock" when first at bootcamp, but some are so excited that this comes through in their calls.  Others don't want family members to worry about them, so they may hide their feelings if they are sad or stressed (several moms have told me this in the past).  The wonderful thing about bootcamp is that they are all in the same position there, so it leads to bonding with each other and special friendships.  They encourage one another and mentor each other.  It does get better for all of them as bootcamp goes along and you will sense their confidence in their letters/calls!

Good Morning All !
