Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I got a call this morning!!! I was very surprised because he's only been there 1 1/2 weeks, and we were even able to talk for 20 minutes. It sounds like he's doing fine, but said he's ready to start PT (he worked out at home everyday and misses that). His call just made my whole weekend!

...oh, a very important thing I forgot. If they haven't been able to write yet, they haven't received your mail yet either! They will get that all at once (tomorrow possibly) and then will receive mail M-F after that, but can still only write to you once a week, mailed out on Mondays.

You can never write them too many letters! They love getting mail. So I would keep writing! They usually can't write until they have been at bootcamp about 2 weeks. They have to get the Recruit Mail Petty Officer trained first. I haven't looked back through the posts in this group to see if any personal letters have been received yet, but if not, then they probably will get to write for the first time tomorrow, mailing out on Monday.

Still no letter from our son. Its been 12 days so far. I am writing one letter a day and wondering if that is too much, but with technology the way it is, no one else is writing. Texting and cell phones are definitely the choice of the young. Next week is the third week. Hopefully some of us can get phone calls. Blue Candle time. Its really hard missing them at times.

I got my letter today. My son is also in Ship 14-div251 so its exciting to see others on here who are in the same division. Still have no other news and am thinking no news is certainly good news. We have less than 7 weeks!!!!

>I got a call from my daughter today. She needed a phone number for her interview. It was so nice to hear her voice. Said she was doing great. My son did not get to call until battle stations, so this was a very welcome surprise. Made my whole weekend.
