Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

We got our second letter today. He sounds good and is doing great! He has made some friends from Minnesota and Wisconsin and said they thought people from AL were backwoods :) He says the phone calls have helped the most :)

So I told my son last time I talked to him that a lot of moms have gotten a few letters already and he's falling behind. Today I got home from work and was excited to see 3 letters from him. Well the three letters consisted of the three page questionnaire I sent to him awhile ago with each page in a separate envelope. Haha love his sense of humor and I actually learned a lot by his answers to it.

We just a got a letter from our SR. I was getting a little down not getting a phone call from him last week when he thought he would call. Turns out he had watch during the morale calls and may or may not get to make it up. But best of all, he's in good spirits and says time is flying by. They're getting ready for hell week next. It really is true that "no news is good news". Hope everyone has a great weekend and stay cool. We're heading into triple digits here in Northern California this weekend.

Thank you diannep, I just hope I can hear from him soon. Hard when I have only received one letter, that took two weeks to get to me, and I never received the form letter either, just the box. His recruiter told me to send a priority letter and hope he can call soon to give me the information as they can not send out another one. Hard to make travel plans for sure.

2boysandamom: Sometimes the RDCs may select some of them, and it is possible that some positions are voted on by the division....not sure. Hope he gives you more info on this soon!
Welcome, Christy. So glad you are here! As far as letters arriving to the SRs right after they arrive there, not likely. RTC has its own mail facility and with so many SRs there (over 5,000), it takes a while to sort it all. The Express Mail deal ends once it is delivered to the base, so it doesn't mean that the SRs actually receive these letters in the time they are supposed to be there.

I think the sticks are assigned by height as all the shorter SRs are marching in the front of the division~~
