i suggest shuttle there and back. then go back with thecar to pick up your sailor. 16 days!!!!!

Hello Everybody!!!

Unfortunately, I would not be able to go to Great Lakes to see my son, but I wish you all the greatest time with your kids!!!

Give them lots of hugs and kisses and tons of encouragement!!  They will need it!!  Tell them how proud you are of their accomplishments.  I would not be present but I already told my son that, that day I will be there in spirit and all my thoughts will be with him.  I miss my son dearly, there is not an hour that I don't think about him; but I know that he is doing something very important, not only for himself but for our nation.  We need more heroes!!! And in my heart my son is the greatest hero of all.

Blessings to you all, enjoy your time with your kids in Great Lakes!!!!!!

We are going to do what sday suggested...is there anywhere to get a couple souvenirs on base & will there even be time for that with the shuttle? 16 days!!

Your sailor will be able to take you into the NEX, there are lots of Navy souvenirs there. Navy mom, Navy dad, Navy Aunt, and so on.

Your sailor can take you there anytime during the weekend. There are a few, the biggest one is off base.

Lorna, I am sure your son understands. Maybe you can hook up with someone on here through private message and they can take some pictures and maybe give your son a hug from you.

I thought I would give you guys a glimpse into PIR day. You will be seated on the far right facing your guys. If you take the shuttle you will enter through the doors that is closest to your bleachers. If you park in the garage you will enter the opposite side. The 800 division enters last, and let me tell you, the cheers are deafening. The energy in the room is beyond words. As they march in and line up in front of you it will be difficult to find your sailor. They march tightly and all look alike. Once they are in line, start looking. Binoculars help. Even though they appear to be looking forward, my son found us.

Once it is over and liberty is called, it gets crazy. All those families and friends are now trying to find their sailor in a huge crowd. Lots of hugs and tears. And of course, lots of pictures.

i cannot wait to see my boyfriend.... it will be amazing. thank you for all the info youve given :)

Just reading your description brought tears to my eyes....I'm going to be a basket-case!

You will be in good company familything, I could barely read this out loud to my husband. Thank you sjtina!
