Remember.....calls should start coming in around 2 pm GL time today...but phones ready all day just in case they start earlier!

Kathleen:  That would be wonderful, but they have discontinuued the overnights for the GL A School new sailors, from what we have been told...this was discontinued a few months ago because not all of the new sailors got it, and it caused some problems.  Your recruiter may not be aware of this change.

Terrysproudmom:  You may be right on them detaining your son until a "group" from the next PIR group is going there.  That would make sense because he is flying out on a Sat, which is when the group most likely will go.  Probably cheaper to fly him that way with a group....they may even have a "charter" for that group which sometimes happens.

Anxiously awaiting "the" phone call! I have been thinking about and praying for all of our recuits. I received a phone call Saturday and a letter from my son yesterday. He sounded SO ready for this! Ready to finish this and move on... what an exciting time for all of them! God Bless! :)

You may want to take the train into Chicago....the station is right next to the base...cheap....you could take a cab once in the city and do lots of walking!

Yes they are, nursememrie.  Right after PIR!  Around 10:30-11.

I was praying on my morning walk (about 5 am GL time) for endurance and determination for the ones doing Battlestations, as I'm sure by that time, they were pretty beat!  But...almost done!  Can't want to see those calls come in for you all today!

Some ladies become concerned if in that call, their sailor seems a bit "down."  Don't worry...remember, they are exhausted...they may be energized by an energy drink, soda, or candy bar, but bottom line...they can't wait to "hit that bunk" at 8 pm tonight (2 hrs earlier than normal).  They will have been up by then for about 38-39 hours!

I understand that the Sailors that will be staying at GL for further training will need a few hours to get moved over.  But for those who are flying out on Saturday, aren't they ready to leave base on liberty much quicker?  I hope so, as Saturday won't be a "fun" day for us since he'll go to the airport before dawn, probably.  I'm hoping he's ready to go with us before noon.  He thinks he wants to go into Chicago, but best I can tell, that's nearly an hour drive.  I just hate to waste nearly 2 hrs driving when he will only have 7 or 8 hrs total to spend with us.

reigbowtopia:  Thanks so much for the info on when they move over to GL.  I never knew the exact timing on that--how much time on RTC-- to pass on as info to the ladies in the PIR groups.  Thanks!

My son also experienced "sensory overload".  He is normally very talkative but as we left RTC on the shuttle, he was strangely quiet and looking around.  I asked what he was thinking, and he said:  Mom, this is the first I have seen of the outside world in almost 10 weeks!

Ha!  It was truly funny to watch him all day in this "state."

Wow....see a lot of y'all were on well into the night/morning!  I was in bed, but paced from about 7 PM before BS until I went to bed about 11.  Then woke up several times during the night, looked at the clock to see how far into BS they were, then prayed for them all until I fell back to sleep.  As my eyes opened this morning, I thought of them with a sigh of relief.  I think I will listen to God Bless the USA, as I believe that's what they played during the changing of the cap ceremony this morning.  Can't wait to get that call today!!!!
