I had heard about the sensory overload before.  This person couldn't even enjoy lunch out to crowded and to much noise; so they ordered take out and brought it back to the hotel.

Just dropped in to wish everyone a great I'm a Sailor call.  I've got my blue candles burning for your recruits.

For those whose Sailors will be staying in GL after PIR - You probably will get to spend a great deal of time with them, but overnight stays are no longer allowed.  My son PIR'd 6/10 and stayed at GL.  Expect to have from the time they announce Liberty at PIR until about noon Friday to spend with your SR at RTC.  During this time we picked up his pictures and he showed us around the portion of RTC they are allowed to show.  He called us about 2:30 to tell us to pick him up at Naval Station GL.  Be prepared to walk from the gate to their ship to sign them out and then back to the gate, about 30 minute walk for us. Be prepared for this walk each morning when you pick up your Sailor.  You will need ID to get on base with your Sailor.  Your Sailor will know what time they need to be back on base each night.

Everyone - Plan for some down time for your SR.  Remember they have had a stressful 2 months and may just want some quiet time.  They also usually want to spend some time with their cell phone to call friends or computers to connect through facebook.

I want to share a statement my Sailor said while we were at the mall.  "He felt like he was experiencing sensory overload."  After being so isolated from all the noise and lights of the "normal" world he noticed feeling overstimulated.

PIR and the time you have with your new Sailors.
