oh and as far as that time, its true, there were several street closings that the GPS didnt know about but as soon as we realized it was closed and thats why we were so backed up, we just asked the GPS for an alternate route and we were on our way as soon as we cleared that mess. I bet we got stopped by the same darned road closure, it was a BUGGER for sure!  I always feel bad when I hear about Obama being in Chicago on a weekend because you know those poor PIR folks are going to be pulling their hair out with security issues for him and road closures.

lala, there were some bad floods last year but I never had any trouble last year.  I think there were issues if you were coming from one area out of the east of Chicago but I am certain Chicago proper didnt flood anywhere and my GPS worked great all weekend. But like you said, around the base, not so much.

hey Lala...I thought you were on you honeymoon  :-)  Snuck to the computer after hubby went to sleep?  Thanks for the info.  You had posted that early on and I new my old GPS wasn't going to cut it so now I'm armed with a new GPS, maps, directions from AAA, and will still do a quick mapquest or google map.  If you hear of me lost before getting to PIR someone should give ME some IT

btw, as we were coming onto base, my rental car was rerouted for "an inspection" they made me drive to another lane to be 'wanded underneath" and the guard asked me a few questions about who was in the car.   He was respectful and quick and it was no big deal, I just followed ALL their instructions without complaint, so IF this happens to you, dont freak out.  Its all good. They randomly select people for that but I'd bet my Texas tags might have been a flag for them. LOL

I agree, get a map. GPS isn't very good when interstates adn other streets are closed from flooding like it was last year in July when we were there for PIR. It was a terrible mess trying to get out of Chicago at 8 am on a Saturday morning. It took 4 hours to go 35 miles.

I bought a new GPS, but still will not trust it completely.  Went to AAA yesterday for a Chicago area map.

I think someone had the address posted to put into our GPS but I can't find it now If you know it please post it again.

Also, we don't have toll roads in California.  How do they work and how much are they.  I think there are some coming and going to both airports.
