OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Has anyone received a letter yet from their SR? They can write at night, correct? I'm so worried, I know it's only been a a little over a week but I imagine they could write during P-days?

CatMom509 - Yep shes a filipina.  Been married for 28 years now.  What I'm surprised was Sarge is married to a filipina also. He's been married 41 years.  Wow!

diannep -  I had some business stuff to do, and wanted to get up-to-date on info so I can pass it along to the future sailors on my website.  It was so fun to go up to Great Lakes this time. When you don't have a recruit going through, you focus on the other cool things to do

Great pik, Craig!  I think we need to have a weekend when all of the N4Moms veterans get together up there in GL!  We need to start saving our nickels and dimes and plan!  :-)

Good Morning All !

Dawnrenee35,

Yes, there is a countdown clock to PIR showing days, hours, minutes, and seconds!!  It only shows up on desktop/laptop computers.  Not sure if those with iPads or cell phones can see it.  It is above the OPSEC information.

Well, hello Craig!!

Nice to see a current pic of you!!  Your wife looks Filipina~~ Thanks for all the updated info on the Navy Lodge and the Navy Gateway Inn!!

Do you have a sailor staying in Great Lakes for "A" school after PIR?
AND
do you have only 2 people going to PIR?

I just got back from the PIR on June 13th. I'm a very vocal advocate of the Navy Lodge for hotel recommendation. However, I have one exception now. It's the Navy Gateway inn which is located on Naval Station Great Lakes. Some will tell you that only active duty can sponsor you in. This is incorrect. IF, you book lodging at the Gateway Inn as a normal civilian (ie you don't have a military ID (CAC) card), AND you book at least 30 days prior to your date of arrival, then you can come and go on base without having your sailor with you. You can enter and exit the base as you please.

The Gateway Inn (Bldg 62) is really nice, however they only have one queen size beds. This limits the guest to 2. Some rooms have a pull out couch but it's not guaranteed, but if you do get one, then you can have 4 to a room.

So what is the benefit over the Navy Lodge?
- If you request a room in the main complex (Bldg 62) on the 4th or 5th floor, AND, you request an "odd" numbered room, then you will get the full Lake Michigan view. It's outstanding!
- The Gateway inn is located on the hill above "Nunn Beach". Your sailor would love to put on their PT gear and/or Swim suit and go to the Beach. The Beach is outstanding.
- If your sailor is attending "A" school at Great Lakes, they just have to walk to your hotel room. All the barracks are really close to the hotel.
You can book a room at the Gateway by calling: 1-877-NAVY-BED
(Remember you need to call at least 30 days in advance so they can run the back ground check on you).
Here is a map: http://www.pointsmap.com/mwrgl/
The big water trikes you can rent of $5 per hour. We didn't do it, but it looks like a bunch of fun....
