Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Div. 283 here (per the recruiter who verified this information for me.) We'll see because I've already sent a whole stack of letters. (it's all in the timing I guess). I already received my "kid in a box". This week.
While the information of Ship # and Div. # do not make any sense to anyone else (it's been the source of dispute lol), the Navy is always subject to change and switch things around every now and then. I was educated on how the SR's are assigned. That each ship contains MANY different area's with different people that do different things in different divisions. Some are expanded when they have an overflow of recruits. It's all space dependent and they make allowances where needed.
The fact that I've heard nothing in the way of phone calls is a good sign for myself. Since "no news is good news" in the Navy. He's been there going on his second Friday this week already. :) And if something were to happen? I would be the first to know. One way or the other.
So I'm sitting here, counting down the Fridays!

Just remember, ladies. The form letters can take sometimes up to 3 weeks to arrive. You can get an address from your recruiter for your SR and send letters, but make sure to check it with the form letter address to make sure there were no changes (form letter address will be correct). Letters will still get there even with wrong address, just take longer.
However, they do not receive mail for the first about 2 weeks of Bootcamp....Recruit Mail Petty Officer must be trained first.
