OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I ordered the blue with gold letters, my SR last name, Div # and a flag for his grandfather and great grandfather who both served. Oh my goodness the Meet & greet is going to be so much fun figuring out who is who! :)
Great idea Lala Ribbon to make the profile pic of ourselves week of PIR to make it easier. Oh the posts all made me smile, Fridays are hard to smile, the weekends can be so hard emotionally, but it does mean we are getting closer to seeing our future Sailors!!

Ellen- I was going to get the blue and yellow also. And one for each of my girls and mom to wear to PIR wih my sons name and div
Comment by CHC on July 12, 2013 at 5:46pm

I ordered the blue with silver lettering. I'll wear both ribbons. I also ordered one for my mother and sister though I don't think my sister will be at the meet and greet. I don't think too many people outside of this group will have the ribbons so we should be able to pick each other out.

Comment by Ellen65 on July 12, 2013 at 5:04pm

I ordered ribbons a few days ago, blue and yellow.
