Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Susan in Tx (Ship 12 Div 279), I rented a car through ACE and they will pick me up from the airport on 8/1/13.  I received the 5% navy discount. I am from TX also...Houston to be exact.  My son will remain in Great Lakes for his A school so I just rented.  Also, I book a room on base at the Navy Gateway for 55.00 per night which is a good deal with no taxes. Look forward to meeting everyone there!!! And of course seeing my SR...

Hey there again, Mom 03-222!  I'm in S FL also!  Hot enough for ya??  HA!  Welcome back.  As a N4Moms veteran yourself, you will be able to help some of the ladies here with their questions also.

For those wanting to use Sarge's shuttle from the airports, see if you can connect with others on here who may be arriving at the same airport as you around the same time so you can share his cab.  Saves all lots of money!

There are a ton of enterprise rental locations all around that part of the world. They will pick you up!

Susan in TX (Ship 12 Div 279) Sarge is a fabulous option. I am using his taxi sevice this time around because hubby can not go and I do not feel comfotable driving by myself. If you do not have his info you can contact me and I can give it to you.

Susan in TX (Ship 12 Div 279). Last month I arrived at O'hare, and the car rental places have free shuttles that took us to pick up our car. you may want to ask you car rental agency about them.

Susan in Tx (Ship 12 Div 279), my son will head to Missouri for A School.  You will love Chicago!  We are flying in on Thursday as well, but not sightseeing as we will have my mother traveling with us.

Hi My Niece is on Ship 14 Div. 286. Can't wait to be there again!!! My daughter graduated 06/14/13 so literally I just left Great Lakes less than a month... LOL!! I am from South Florida.

Comment by diannep on July 10, 2013 at 3:38pm

...oh and of course you will need the PIR gate pass too which you should be able to print out 11 days before PIR.

Comment by diannep on July 10, 2013 at 3:37pm

Those renting a car and driving to PIR...make sure you have the rental agreement in the car and proof of insurance, either on the rental receipt or your private insurance card.  This is a requirement to get on RTC.

Comment by Susan in TX (Ship 11 Div 279) on July 10, 2013 at 3:35pm

Beachmom (Ship 13, Div 281), I am in the Houston area.  My husband and I are flying in on Thursday morning, out on Monday the 5th.  We have never been to Chicago, and figure if we are there, make the most of it! We hope to rent a car, see the Art Institute on Thursday morning, then check in at our hotel and head to the meet-n-greet.  We would be able to drive onto the base for graduation, and to the airport to see our SR off.  Then still be able to drive around Chicago on Sunday and Monday, and turn in the car on Monday evening before heading to the airport.

Thanks for the input.  I will talk to my hubby about it. My SR will be heading to Pensacola I believe... where is yours going?
