OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Bittersweet day....my son proposed to his GF right after the fireworks so we are super happy but sad because my SR wasn't able to be here.  I sent her pics of him on his bended knee so I know she will like that but this mama is having a hard time .  Counting the days to PIR!!!

Thank you so much.  We are praying and encouraging.  I will be gone all week at a school for English teachers, so wrote him 4 letters and 4 cards today to have hubs mail out each day while I am gone.

Good advice, Annette!  Remember too, Kimmy....they take 3 PFAs.  The first 2 are just practice....the 3rd one, right before BattleStations, has to be passed no matter what they did on the first two.  He still has time!  With lots of practice, I bet he'll make it.  Even if he doesn't pass it before his division does BattleStations, he will get more chances...they get to try M W F when working with the FIT DIVISION which is what they go into if they don't pass by BattleStations date.  Most will pass before their PIR, do BattleStations, and be at PIR.  For those who don't, they stay in FIT and keep trying....as long as they are improving, they get more chances.  Once they pass, they do BattleStations and head straight to A School, no PIR.  Remember, this is only if they don't pass before thier PIR.

Kimmy, I posted on FB as well, have your SR find someone in his div who is obviously having no trouble with the running, and ask them how to breathe properly for running. It's usually breathing that is the bigger issue, more than speed or physical stamina. Once the breathing is mastered, the rest comes a little easier.

I got a letter from my SR.  He is terrified he won't graduate on time because of his PFA.  We have everything planned and are encouraging him, but I wish I could find the right words to give him.  I am not a real "athletic" girl, so saying that I could do it isn't an option.

I should say....Navy Lodge is only about 3 miles or so from Sarge's MeetandGreet.

On the Ramada question, check the blogs.  Some have liked that hotel, others have complaints.  We have been told it is not located in a very safe area....this was reported to us by some who work there at the A School.  They do have a MeetandGreet at that hotel though.

tabu:  Recommended hotels from those on this site have been:

Springhill Suites-Waukegan

Courtyard Inn-Waukegan

Residence Inn-Waukegan

Holiday Inn Express-Waukegan

(all of these hotels are close together   4-5 miles from RTC)

Navy Lodge (a mile from RTC, book in your SR's name and tell them you are there for Navy Graduation)

There are many other hotels in the area and other nice ones further away, but these are the ones we hear the most good about.  We stayed at Residence and enjoyed it very much.  Be sure to call the hotels directly and ask if they have a Navy Graduation rate.  Compare that to any other discounts you may have.  If you book through a travel discount site, just remember that if you have to cancel or change (i.e., SR is set back for any reason in training), they may charge you.

Even though you have your own vehicle, you may want to consider the shuttle.  We did, and it was wonderful.  $3/pp each way, sailor returns with you (if not moving over to GL A School which happens right after PIR).  There is the area shuttle service that most hotels use and also Sarge's shuttle service.  Both are the same price.  By the way, the hotels listed above (except Navy Lodge) are all very close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held for Navy families the night before PIR.

Gumby-Ship, I sent out 2 letters to those young ladies today, along with the letter to my son. Thank you for sharing their names. This is such a tough time & any way that I can help out, I will.

I am really looking forward to PIR! But I haven't set up reservations for our hotel yet. What is our best option? We will be driving in from Michigan on Thursday night. Would we be better off at the Navy Lodge, the Ramada, or somewhere else? Shuttle isn't an issue, since we will have our own vehicle. Any advice will be appreciated!

Well my vacation has come to an end and it is time to head home. We have been in Florida for two weeks and it has rained every single day we were here. Not exactly the Sunshine State we were hoping for lol. But we still had fun, had a few adventures and met some awesome Navy Moms at our meet and greet. I will be in VA Beach area for a couple weeks in early August and we are planning a meet and greet there as well. If anyone in this group lives in that area please let me know and maybe you can meet with some other Navy Moms while we are there :) Here is the link to my facebook group so you can keep up with the meet and greet updates https://www.facebook.com/groups/327167160695549/  I will be away from the computer tomorrow (Saturday) while we head back to NC. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend :)
