~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

chantily6971 clearance calls are for extra information needed for their security paperwork, like an address, my son actually needed an address and a place of birth for a family member. It was so nice to hear his voice, sayig "I love you mom", ahhh going to cry again :)

If my son is going to A school in Texas for hospital corpsman after he graduates on aug 2, when would he leave?  Do I get the whole weekend with him or just a few hours?

I got my form letter yesterday.  My son is on ship 13 div 282.  I saw someone on here who mentioned getting a clearance call.  What is that?  I didn't receive any calls at all yet.

Thanks for the advice. We are looking at flying out Thursday morning, that way we can see a little of Chicago that day... my in-laws are coming as well, but most likely on a different flight, but my MIL is handling the accommodations (she has some hotel deal with Choice Hotels).  We are hoping to stay through Monday, and either spend time with our son if he has any liberty time available, or just enjoy Chicago or Milwaukee while we are there.  I have never been to Chicago so I'm excited!

Anyone else from Southern California?

Comment by diannep on June 14, 2013 at 2:17pm

No, don't get refundable.  It is almost never cheaper than paying the "change fee" if you have to change/cancel.

You are headed in the right direction...Southwest wanna get away fares.  They had super one-way fares going on...I posted on here yesterday, but it had to be booked by yesterday.  You can fly into Milwaukee (45 minutes to GL) or Midway (about an hour to GL with traffic).

With Southwest, you can book sooner since there is no change fee.  I don't know how much fluctuation they have in their fares...or if they will run another special one-way fare where you could get a deal.  Maybe pick out some flights...watch how full they are getting by pulling up seating chart...and make a decision then.  Hard to say for sure but I wouldn't wait too long!  2 bags check for free too.

SilverDill, Southwest Airlines is pretty good about refundable tickets, or changing travel dates, so I would check with them about that if that's what you're flying anyway.

Comment by Susan in TX (Ship 11 Div 279) on June 14, 2013 at 2:11pm

So I'm curious... I know the letter says get "refundable" airline tickets....but goodness, I can't afford refundable from Houston.  Most cost me $400 plus ONE WAY to Chicago or Milwaukee.  If my husband and I are both to do, we have to do the "wanna get away" type fares (we will probably fly Southwest).  Any advice on all this? Should we book now, wait a few more weeks... so much to learn and do....
