Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Dianelynn,

You're welcome~~  The cell phone charger would be good to have.  Does he have a laptop or tablet?  The cables for those...My Sailor daughter gave her laptop to her sister and decided to buy a new one and have it shipped.  My husband researched the laptop features and prices for her and sent her the links!

Maybe some favorite snacks that can be bought from your area only??

Oh, and since he is staying in GL for A School, you can bring him a good amount of his civilian clothes to keep there until he phases up and can wear them (takes 2-3 weeks).  Would save you money on shipping them!

Comment by diannep on July 15, 2014 at 10:15pm

Yep, he can have his cell phone in A School, Dianelynn!

Yes he is staying in Great Lakes A school I didn't think he could keep his phone there.. I will bring him clothes and underwear for the room.. And whites for under his white uniform.. Thanks so much moms!

Dianelynn:  Is your son staying in GL for A School?   If so, then yes, he can take his phone back to base after Liberty.  But if flying out, then you will have to give him the phone at the airport.  Other items he may like are a few civilian clothes (can't wear until he phases up but can wear inside the hotel room after PIR....must be in uniform outside of the room).    You may want to ask your SR what other items he may want.  Just remember, if flying out, these need to fit in his Navy backpack and all need to be given to him at the airport.   They have a large seabag and garment bag (uniforms) to keep up with so no room for other luggage to take with them!
