~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I have a question for the veteran moms. My recruit/son filled out the access list and listed his brother as "middle name, last name," which is what his brother has gone by all his life. However, his brother's official ID will say, "first name, middle name, last name". When PIR time comes, will this be a problem when his brother goes through security to get in? I don't want to burden my recruit/son with this problem- it may distract him or embarass him, so I'd like to problem solve it without bothering him. Thoughts? Would the recruiter know the answer? I looked on the navy graduation website but I couldn't find anything specifics about IDs. Thanks!

CelticMomma,

I think initially they ask for who has experience performing and choose from there.  After that, not sure if may they choose the SRs who do the flags based on their marching and ability to keep time.  If she didn't raise her hand for anything, she has a good chance of not being "detected." :)

Cristy, how long ago was your call? My SR is in 939 and I didn't get anything yet today! :( but thank you for sharing about when they can write. Now I have a better idea of when I'll start to receive letters!

Have a question about the 900 Divisions... My daughter was a musician (still is, but...) - She sang the Nat'l Anthem at games, graduation, and was in District Chorus, etc. Do they audition for the 900 Divisions, or is it strictly voluntary? I want to ask her about it, but I don't want to bring up a potential sore spot...

Thanks, ladies, for the calendar idea! What a great idea. I just made one up today and inserted funny little pictures for special events, family birthdays, when we are arriving, when he goes to A-school, etc. Hope it helps. If anything, it might make him laugh!

navymom:  You might want to contact his recruiter for the ship/division numbers and address.
