~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

It will be "847" the caller ID will say Illinois, that's how I knew it was my son calling last Saturday, very good advice on keeping your cell phone on you. I was outside doing landscaping, had my cell turned all the way up. I know everyone must be wondering why I'm still up, my son would be in his room down the hallway playing his Xbox , I would call out to him 'turn it down " now I leave a night light in his room, to give his room that I'm still here look, sad but true, I'm a single mom an he's been with me for 19 yesrs, I know that he's in good hands with the Navy.

Hey everyone, I want to give you a "HEADS UP" to be prepared to receive calls from your SRs this weekend!  The call will show up as "847", "Pay Phone", or "Government" or anything else that may be unfamiliar.  If it is a sales call, just politely tell them "No, thank you."

During this time in Boot Camp, please keep your cell phones charged, ready, and with you all the time---upstairs, downstairs, out in the backyard, in the bathroom, out to get the mail, of course, out on errands.  If you are going to a loud restaurant or a movie theater, remember to put it on "vibrate" and put in your pocket or some place you can feel it.  They can call during the week or weekend, so just be prepared:  6:00 am - 6:00 pm (West Coast); 8:00 am - 8:00 pm (Great Lakes time); 9:00 am - 9:00 pm (East Coast).

Very happy to have received the form letter from my son today! Ship 9 Div 244. Can't wait fo get a phone call! My son's best friend went to BC a week before he did (Ship 3 Div 239). Even though they may not see each other, they know they are there together!

I'm so excited!! I got a phone call from my son this morning. I couldn't believe it. He sounded in really good spirits. He was able to talk a while. I got lots of good info from him. He said he felt out of touch without his phone. He told me to make sure I write lots and to pass his address out.

The ribbons are a great way to show your sailor how proud you are of their accomplishments and they have become a Navy family tradition. They also make it easy to find other from this site and the facebook group that you have met in this journey and who are from the same division as you. Plus, they make a great keepsake :) I have been making them for Navy families since my daughter had PIR July 23, 2010 DIV 936 :) Please let me know if you have any questions at all and you can click on my name and send me a friend request and I will send you the link to my website :)

I can't wait for a letter from my son!  It's so hard not knowing how he is doing.  When do you usually get a phone call from them?  I heard some already got one.

Comment by M'sMom on June 20, 2014 at 9:08pm
I must have missed something. What are the ribbons?
