Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good idea, navy06, since a few times, the calls HAVE started before 2 pm!  Not often, but it does happen!  :-)

GoBuckeyes!  HA!  Well, glad I could "talk you down from the ledge."  Believe me, many of my friends have probably done that for me at times too!  :-)  We N4Moms veterans have loved helping you all here.  We will stay tuned in so if you have any questions when you arrive at PIR, please post.

Don't forget about the LIVESTREAM option for you all on Fri morning.  The link to it is in the discussion above and also in the "pages" section under the Members Photo Box up top.  Let your family/friends who are left behind know!

Ladies:  I just heard from Sarge.  He said it is ok to arrive early (5 pm) if you want to have more choice in seating for the MeetandGreet.  The MeetandGreet starts at 5:30.  There have been some in the past who have said it is too dark in there, so I passed that info on to him....he said he will have them turn up the lights.  They can seat close to 400 in there so there is plenty of seating.

For those who can't get there until later, there is still plenty of space so please go.  The food is pretty good too!

Wow, today is going to be a very long day!  I've been tossing and turning all night, and staring at my phone since 6 am.  Just in case this is the one time they call before 2 pm.......Really wish I had a hobby right now!

Tami - glad you got your call.  We rec'd ours, too.  My son sounded tired, but happy.  The connection was really poor, but I'm hoping to hear from him again today.  I'm in Bristol, TN & we're staying @ the Residence Inn.  Leaving this afternoon to break the trip up.  So looking forward to PIR!

Thank you so much to the admins of this group.  You all have been such a wealth of info.  Diannep - I feel like you talked me down from the ledge multiple times.  I appreciate all you do for all of us.

Good morning everyone.

MamaJ, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter but am glad she is strong and am sure she will excel during the next 2 weeks!

Good Morning All !

MamaJ:  I love your positive outlook!  And I totally agree!  Through pain and setbacks, we have the opportunity to grow and learn which makes us stronger and wiser in the end.  Please post on here when she is finally a sailor!

navy06:  297/298 should be calling this afternoon....their I'm a Sailor calls!  Calls can start around 2 pm Central time or later...keep the phones close!

Comment by MamaJ2275 on August 7, 2013 at 6:00am
Diannep: It is the run she's struggling with. According to her last letter, she's really close. I only got the pertinent details in the phone call yesterday-- new address, 2-week time frame, from a very sad but strong girl. I imagine she feels pretty rotten that she's been able to perform at the last 3 PIRs, but won't get her own. Well we can grow through these kinds of experiences too.

Navy06: good to hear that this blip won't keep her from a happy future. Fingers crossed for your phone call today!
