~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ladies, just a heads up that you may want to go ahead and make hotel reservations once you know the PIR date.  Being summertime, with a waterpark nearby, the hotels can fill quickly, especially the ones with suites.  There is usually no penalty if you book directly with the hotel as opposed to going through a travel discount website, and you usually can cancel up to a day before or day of arrival if you need to.  Hotels that have received good reviews from previous PIR attendees are:

Navy Lodge

Springhill Suites

Residence Inn  (we stayed there and enjoyed it)

Comfort Inn

Holiday Inn

All of the above except for Navy Lodge are in Waukegan/Gurnee, about 3-4 miles from RTC.  Navy Lodge is the closest to RTC...about a mile.  You cannot walk there since the street is a little busy and limited/no sidewalks.  But you can drive or use Sarge's shuttle service.  If you decide on Navy Lodge, be sure to book in your SR's name and tell them it is for Navy Graduation.

Friends,

Also want to let you know that you can put your SR's cell phone on Military Suspension for the 2 months that he/she wiil be in Boot Camp.  Just contact your cell phone carrier after your SR has made his/her "I'm Here" call and the phone is on its way back to you in The Box or any time after you get it back.  You can do this for free and it will save on the monthly charges on that phone.  You can re-activate it for the day before PIR.  I was able to easily re-activate my daughter's cell phone online at Verizon Wireless.

Ladies,

Craig, one of the administrators here at Navy for Moms, is the designer of the challenge coins specifically related to Boot Camp:  Ship 03 (USS Hopper), etc.  There is a coin for every ship here in this PIR group.  There are also other coins related to their future rating (job), the Core Values one, I Love My Sailor etc in the section where the 70 other coins are listed.  These are very meaningful gifts for your future Sailor connected to their Boot Camp days.  There is a video you can watch when you click on a coin.

This appears to be what this TG has so far

Divisions 287/288 Ship 03

Divisions 289/290 Ship 12

Divisions 291/292 Ship 09

Divisions 293/294 Ship 14

Division 939 Ship 2

The division listed together are brother divisions. They are housed in the same ship and  will train together all the way through BS.

Comment by Debi on June 20, 2013 at 11:54pm
There are several compartments in each ship. Each compartment holds one division. Not all the divisions are on the same schedule so there can be new divisions in the same ship where there are divisions that are almost ready to PIR. I know div 290 is in ship 12. They are in this PIR group.

Jo Ann, a challenge coin is a "ceremonial" coin that sailors can receive from their division commanders. However, challenge coins cannot be earned at boot camp. They have to be given as a gift. There is a long history to the coin and how they came to be. Today, sailors carry them and if they are "challenged" to show them they will either end up buying thr round of soda or other beverages or having them purchased for them.
If you type in www.pirgifts.com it will take you to the eBay site to purchase the coins. My sailor knew what it was without us telling him and was stoked that he had one. They are beautiful and about the size of a half dollar. The seller is very good and the coins came fast! Also part of the proceeds supports the dep programs.

Thank You DeeMarie! That gives me something to latch onto!

NavyMom2005, my SR is also ship 03.  He is div 288 but I think there is also another division in ship 03 (maybe 287?) that they train with.  May not be much help but maybe that narrows it down a little bit...
