Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

He was tired and sick! Phone connection was not that great!! He is a Sailor!!! So excited!!!

Comment by lawlady1963 on August 7, 2015 at 5:44pm: My son just called--div 269--He's a Sailor!!!!!!! We kept getting cut off, and he called back twice. The third time it cut out too, after a several minutes. I didn't get to say good-bye! But he sounded wonderful, said he was tired, and that he is extremely happy!!!

Comment by ellen0502 on August 7, 2015 at 5:06pm: Jenndan, You will have just a few short days to wait for your call. There can be up to four divisions a night going through BS, but sometimes there is only two.

If you are going to be flying or traveling when that call is expected change the message on your phone. Congratulate them on becoming a Sailor, let them know you are on the move to see them, and tell them when you will be available for a call...They might be able to call you again at that time.

Comment by ellen0502 on August 7, 2015 at 5:03pm: Your new Sailors do have an allotted time to make their "I am a Sailor" calls. How much time will depend in how many are needing to make that call. They are usually done in numerical order so 269/270 would call after 267/268.

Don't forget to ask your Sailor if everyone passed BS in their division, it helps the ones still waiting with anxiety issues. LOL
