OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Good Morning, All.  Just to let you know that the mail is held from them for about the first 2 weeks.  They must train the Recruit Mail Petty Officer before mail can flow.  Normally,  they will be allowed to write their first personal letters on a Sunday, and after those are collected, then they receive their first mail.  That is why some of your first personal letters may say:  Why haven't you written?  Families freak out that their letters didn't arrive, but actually they are there...and your SR probably received them after the mail was collected!  Once this first mail delivery is made, they will receive mail M-F....but will only be allowed to mail out on Mondays.

My sons PIR is 8/14 ship 13 division 273, anyone else have a loved one in this division?

Comment by diannep on June 25, 2015 at 7:33pm

Just to let you all know that your SR's division trains with a brother division.  The way they go is like this:

odd number+even number

So....for instance, if your SR is in 267, and you see someone post from Div 268, friend request that person and you can then private message each other---your SRs will eventually know each other.  Of course, do this with those in your own division as well!  We suggest personal info be private messaged rather than posted here on this page....best to keep personal info off the public pages!

No letter for us yet, but it takes but longer for mail to get through the FPO system. Hopefully, it'll be here soon!
