OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I have a question if anyone know the answer that would be great.  On saturday 8-17-13 while my son has liberty, can we walk around the Naval base and have him show us around etc?  or is that not allowed?

I read that photographs and cruise books may be purchased only by the recruit prior to their graduation.

Received a letter from my son today. He said that they had their uniform pictures taken and thinks that they are going to be mailed home. That would be great! I can't wait to see them :)

Received my letter today!  He sounded so good.  Now I just need a phone call.  It's been too long since I've heard his voice.  14 more days, I can not wait!!

Craig - Good morning - My SR has been sent home (Ship 5) for medical.  We had purchased a couple of JFK coins that I would like to talk to you about returning but I can't find a contact number for you.  Please let me know how I can contact you.

Thank you.

Thanks Dianne for putting some perspective to what I'm reading on this site.  My son is not good about sharing so I rely on what other SR's Mom's hear from their recruits. - I guess I was feeling a little overwhelmed yesterday.  I'm used to being the SR and controlling the ship, not sitting on the side lines wondering how the game is going.  The good news is that in 15 days I'll find out:)

Just hang in there with your SRs.  There is alot of pressure now since they are so close to PIR.  This group will be starting BattleStations later next week....so there is lots of anticipation.  They are in the homestretch now and most WILL get it all together.  If some SRs are still not behaving, they can still be asmoed (setback) in their PIR date.  But hopefully they are all encouraging one another as a team so they can be at PIR together!
