OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Caithness:  You may not receive another phone call until the I'm a Sailor call.  This PIR group will start BattleStations (their final test and then they are sailors) Thurs night, calls on Fri afternoon.  None on Fri or Sat nights, and then they will most likely start up again on Mon night of PIR week, finishing with a group going through on Tues night.  Calls come in after 2pm Central the day they finish.   It is a 12 hr overnight drill.

They probably will go with 4 divisions on Thurs night, then 4 either Mon or Tues night of PIR week, and 3 the other night (the group that has the 900 division in it....no brother division with them, so they go with another set of brother divisions). There are never any BattleStations on Fri or Sat nights, but in the past, they have sometimes gone on Sunday nights, but not for a long time now.

If anyone has received BattleStations dates for their division, can you please friend request the info to me?  I keep a schedule of the BattleStations for each PIR group and post them "after completed" in the BattleStations discussion.  We cannot disclose exact BattleStations dates for a division publicly on this site or FB before they happen, but we can private message them and post them after they are done.  Thanks.

Good Morning!

ellen0502,

How can you tell for sure that this particular Sailor is really yours??  His watch?? The shape of his head??

Comment by diannep on August 8, 2014 at 7:58pm

Love it, ellen!  I'm sure now that your sailor ..... just doesn't have a face!  HA!  He is a sly one!

diane, Thank you for the invite. Maybe we can meet up at Sarge's and discuss it, if that's ok with you. :)
