Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I too, also rented a car and chose to leave it at my hotel and take Sarge's shuttle, which was so easy and convenient!! Only $3.00 per person each way. (Same price as the one that is from the hotel). Sarge will pick you party up at your hotel no problem Sign up for it toward the end of his Meet & Greet or if you can't make that, call or text him at 847-212-0246 to make arrangements early the week of your PIR.
I didn't want to deal with other drivers, getting confused how to get there, or whatever. Plus, I knew my Sailor daughter would appreciate coming to our hotel room for a bit before we headed back out to get something to eat~~

I have a quesiton. I have rented a car and can get the pass for the gate, but is it easier to take a shuttle if the hotel offers one? I am not staying at the Navy Hotel, but it's still very close.
Also, thanks so much for all the help on this site. I haven't had time to participate but I have read all the posts and it helps so much! :)

As it gets closer and closer to PIR, does anyone have any questions? I would suggest that all read the Family Guide on the RTC site if you have not already...for lots of info. Hoping that all of you have your flights/hotels booked by now. Please post any questions you have here and one of us N4Moms veterans will try and get an answer for you! BattleStations for this PIR group will start late next week. Please see the BattleStations discussion above in the Forum for general info!
