OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Sheila:  Is she possibly an Honor Recruit?  If so, they have a little ceremony for them with the families before PIR.  You should get a letter stating this....maybe she is just giving you a heads up?  I know that that gates open at 6:30 for all others.  So that is just what I'm thinking?????

Hello Friends!

     Your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel;

I am the Lord Your God,

who teaches you what is best for you,

who directs you in the way you should go."

Ok, Paulamamabear:  You were SPOTTED!  Is this you trying to climb the fence last night to get into RTC?  :-)  Yep, you wouldn't be the first!

Comment by Paulamamabear Ship13Div311 on August 22, 2013 at 12:38pm

Well, we made it...we are in Chicago.  We got here last night.  Of course, we had to go drive by the RTC.  Can't see a darn thing (especially at night) but it felt so good to now that I was that close to my "Sailor".

Safe travel for any and all that are coming to PIR.  Hope to see many of you tonight at Sarge's Meet and Greet.

Safe travel for those leaving today!

Good Morning!

...just realized your departure time....hoping that you are on your way to GL, Codeman, and you get a call from your "sailor" today!

Comment by diannep on August 22, 2013 at 9:04am

Codeman:  You can try calling the PAO....not sure they will tell you anything.  They usually tell you if you didn't get a call saying DON'T COME, that you should go.  They are supposed to call if they will not graduate, but even that is not foolproof.  A family showed up there recently, hadn't received a call, and their SR was not graduating.  They were not able to see their SR.  I would try the PAO....just in case....hoping they can tell you that you have a sailor....  847 688 2405

CONGRATULATIONS to all the new Sailors and their families!!  Have an Awesome PIR!!

Remember, the Navy journey does not end here!  Keep plugged into Navy for Moms.  There are A school groups, C school groups, state groups, regional groups, rating (job) groups, base groups, ship groups, twin/multiple group, and the Christian Chat group that I am a part of!  Lots to learn about on this Navy path~~  God Bless You!

Codeman,

The only thing I can suggest is to call the Public Affairs Office 847-688-2405 to see if you can find anything out.  Hope that helps you~~
