~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Codeman,

The index card they would fill out after they get their flight info when they pass Battlestations and then give it you after PIR.  It's just an option because they will tell you anyway when they are on leave with you at the hotel and you can note it then.  They can also tell you when you get the "I'm a Sailor" call, but alot or so exhausted, they can't remember the info or mumble it.  The important part is which airport: Midway or Chicago O' Hare, and what is the flight time of the plane they are catching to A school.

When I met my Sailor daughter at Midway, the gate passes were issued to family members after her group of Sailors who were leaving on the same flight were processed at the ticket counter.  The USO was not involved in issuing the gate pass.

Michelle,

"Grad & go" is an outdated term.  The Sailors no longer leave the very same day after PIR.  You will get to have time with your Sailor from about 10:30 am to maybe 7:00 pm (they will need to leave an hour before to get back to RTC early).  Then most who fly out to A school, will board the busses at just after midnight (Friday/Saturday) to travel to Midway or Chicago O' Hare airports arriving about 1:30 am, then flights will be leaving throughout the day.  Families are welcome at the airports and everyone will need a photo id or birth certificate or social security card to obtain a Gate Pass to spend time with your Sailor and see him/her off at the gates.

Michelle:  They used to use the "grad and go" title for the sailors leaving out for A School the day after PIR.  When my son was there, he was a "grad and go."  But they no longer use that phrase (although some of the RDCs may still use it).  As it is now, most all who are flying out for A School will be leaving the day after PIR.  They do not leave for A School on PIR Day, but could be bussed to the airport very late that night to wait for flights.  All flying out are bussed to the airports during the night to wait for flights....some may wait all day on Saturday for their flights, but most will fly out earlier than that. You should have at least until 8 or 9 pm with your sailor on PIR Day, and then you can meet up with your sailor at the airport and wait until the flight leaves.  The airlines gate passes are issued by the airlines....bring your ID and you will go with your sailor to get these passes.  No problems.
