OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Alisa:  There is an RTC FB page.  Just put Recruit Training Command in the search bar.  They post random pictures sometimes on there.

Good afternoon! Sorry I haven't been on much, I have been spending time with my son who has been home on leave. He is only home for a few more days before he is off to Japan for four years. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Andrea, if you clicked on "Accept" before reading kristi's message, it may have disappeared!  But if she is your friend, her picture will be on your page under "Friends" (left side)...same with your picture on her page.

To start messaging each other, just click on her picture on your page (or on her screen name or photo here where she commented).  On the left side, it will say:  Send a Message   Click on it and write your message.  Be sure to hit "send" when you are done.  Then, just start watching your "Inbox" top right under your name for new messages!  You just click on the "subject" line of the email and your email will come up.  Just takes a little practice but it is not hard.

Yes, you are correct.  No SR's last names allowed on here.  It is a problem with FB exposing last names at times.  Not a problem unless it is also a SR's last name however.  The Navy has actually closed down a few groups on FB that were not practicing OPSEC in the groups (for deployed ships).  Very dangerous to be "loose lipped" when last names are exposed.  So all need to be careful what they post there.    Even in private groups (which really aren't so private...although administrators are on there to try and remind all to be careful).

Kristi,
Well Texas would send our kids off with a big thank you! I haven't received the letter yet. But she said div314. He's trying to get into the special warfare division. I think he tests for that this week. I'm a Houston girl myself, moved to Dallas about 11 years ago.
