Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by diannep on August 9, 2014 at 9:25am: Hint for you re" hugging your sailors after PIR. This was passed on to me by a Coast Guard Officer's wife, who also had a son in the Navy. When you go to hug your new sailor, and you don't want to smear your makeup on their uniform, place your hand on their shoulder and rest your chin on that before hugging! Keeps their uniform clean!

Beef stands were everywhere growing up and I love to get a Beef, dipped, sweet. (Translation: Italian beef on a hard, sub-type roll and both are dipped in the juices, topped with sweet peppers). DH will get a combo, dry, hot, cheese (Translation: Italian beef AND Italian sausage on a hard, sub-type roll, topped with provolone and giardiniera made in oil). They have to be extra careful wearing their whites, but those whites can find dirt in a negative pressure chamber, LOL!

He will be busy this weekend with PIR going on, but should get back to you about this once things settle down. I bet he knows all of the good burger places in the area and would welcome your question!

If he wants a gourmet type burger, go with Smashburger. I tried Five Guys and it is really expensive for what you get. I wasn't impressed at all. My 12 year old daughter agreed! Of course, I am spoiled with In N' Out!!

We actually have plans to go to Geno's Pizza as I have eaten there in the past and they have some KILLER Chicago-style deep dish pizza. If he is really adamant about a good burger, I have hear that 5 Guys and Smash Burger are good. So we'll see. I just want to be flexible for my SR and make him happy as heck that weekend.
