For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

It's a West Coast chain only :( How am I going to break that news to him? I sure hope we can find something comparable. Unless you've eaten In-N-Out, you just don't know what you're missing!

Oh my, your SR's letter reminded me that I had sent a photocopied pic of an In N' Out Double-Double double cheeseburger and Animal Fries as a letterhead pic (writing my letter underneath) to my Sailor daughter in Boot Camp and didn't find out till later that had made her mad because she couldn't have it!! That was my way of reminding her of home, but she thought I was torturing her?? I didn't think of it that way~~lol!

Comment by Sierrascrapper (ETN2) on August 7, 2014 at 3:35am: Got a letter today too! I was lucky enough to get my dear sweet husband to bring it to work for me so I could get my "FIX". LOL He seems to be doing well. He also said that he doesn't know his Nuke rating just yet, but that was because he wrote the letter before he found out. I can't wait for the next one! I have to say that my son's humor definitely helps me feel better about his whole experience. He mentioned that he did get sick a week or so ago with a bad cough and was actually SIQ for a night. He seems to be fine now though thankfully. My son said they are in a push division so they are starting DOT 4-5 on Thursday and will be on 5-1 on Friday. I know it's a bit different for a few other divisions in our PIR group and he also gave me an idea of when BS21 is, so that helps to give me a good idea of when it will be. Diannepp...I think you are absolutely correct as far as the date you gave me. I need to look at a calendar to be sure though. I haven't had a chance to really look at it yet since I just got home from work.

Fave quote from his letter: "And that food bit...leave it out...are you trying to make we escape bootcamp?"

So...advice is...don't talk about what you are eating or cooking in your letters unless you want to make your SR hungry. LOL He said he DEFINITELY wants In-N-Out Burger for PIR weekend. Is there one of those in Chicago? I hope so!

Comment by Mstink Ship 14 Div 269 on August 6, 2014 at 6:52pm: Great news...letter from my SR today!!! Div 269 earned their first flag a few days ago!! He went to classifications and got to pick his rate (he's a nuke) but said he would find out Monday (letter was written last Sunday) what he gets...so guess I'll have to wait til next letter to find out!! He said they also got lots of info on what the next 24 months would be like & it looked like Thanksgiving would be his first visit home! According to him after PIR he will have liberty til 2000 then they will wake up nukes to take to airport at 0100 and 0300 but have to stay at USO until around noon when flights start. He did confirm week 4 starts Tuesday and that "hopefully I'll make it out alive!". Thank goodness he still has his sense of humor!! Hope lots of letters made it home today!!

Comment by Tracy123 Ship 11 Div 268 on August 6, 2014 at 4:19pm: Missing my son so much today. My dayghter had been entertaining the idea of joing the Navy also and yesterday she made the decision and will be taking the asvab the week before we see our son graduate. Wow this is a lot of adjusting.

He seemed a little interested. So...that might be a good filler. I just wish I could be more creative. It feels like I keep writing the same stuff over and over and I just pray I'm not boring him with the same old stuff.

Really reaching here for news myself since he told me new of our cat Moxie was at the bottom of his list of necessary!!! I get off early today so hope to hit my mailbox about 4pm!!
