~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I am having huge computer issues where my computer won't even turn own. I use my hubby's computer when he's at work but for some reason his mouse pad on the laptop has gone crazy and moves the around all over where I am typing and makes a jumbled mess. It takes at least 10 minutes to post a comment so I get very frustrated and give up. My is home and she thinks she can fix my hubby's computer and she has a laptop I can use for a while as well. It will be at least two weeks before I get my computer back :( I will never again buy a Dell. Please don't think I have deserted you. I will be here as much as I can and I can always keep up with the facebook groups using my phone. If you need me or have any questions for me please send me a friend request or message me on Facebook. I am an admin for all the PIR groups there as well :)

Hi everyone, I was on vacation and didn't get to properly get to introduce myself. Hi everyone, I am one of the "veteran" moms who has stuck around this site and the PIR facebook pages long after my sailors PIR to help others just like you. My daughter had PIR July 23rd 2010 and was an AO based in VA all 4 years. She is now out, got out in May but she is married to a sailor based in San Diego now and they have a baby girl who will be a year old on Thursday. They are here visiting me now :) So excited to have them home for her first birthday. My best advice for now is write every single day if you can. Your letters are the highlight to their day. They have long hard days of training and studying and learning to become fine young sailors and each night when it is time for bed  have mail call. They may be feeling like they made a mistake and not sure if they can do it. But then they lay down on their rack and read your words of encouragement and know they can make it through another day. So keep those pens busy and your phones always close by. Welcome to your group :)

I received a call from my daughter on Saturday! It was the Best call I ever received. It was 37 min and she sounded great! She told me all the exciting things she is doing and she did not want to miss anything. I shared a few things with her as well. She told me how she thought of me as I had an exam to take a couple days after she left borough tears... She also choked up when she said she loved that I wrote every day sometimes twice a day. She loved it and said it felt great when they called her name every time she had mail. She also was mailing letters to me on Sunday:-)Great call! Missing her sooo much!!! I felt bad that she had made a calendar for herself. Sending her calendar pages...

Just talked to my sister, who told me she sent my daughter a package with skittles in it!!! :(  I am stressing out and hoping that my daughter and her division don't get in trouble.

I received the call from my son on Saturday.  Ship 14, Div. 270. He is adjusting well. Hearing his voice was therapeutic! He graduates on our 27th wedding anniversary. What a way to celebrate!  I am so proud of my son as well as all of your sons and daughters!

Sal:  To add to CatMom's post below, remember....you can meet your sailor at the airport and wait until departure....bring ID to get the airlines pass to wait at the gate.  I agree with her that late Saturday night should be the earliest you should plan to leave, and if you can stay until Sunday, even better ... just in case.  This is a good area for sightseeing in the event your sailor for sure flies out early Saturday (it could be any time on Saturday from around 6 a.m. until early evening).  They won't know their flight plans until right before PIR.

Good Morning All !

Comment by CatMom509 on July 21, 2014 at 3:28am

Sal,

The minimum hotel stay should be arriving Thursday afternoon or earlier and flying out on Saturday evening.  So you need a hotel for Thursday and Friday.  We arranged for a late check-out on Saturday.  Your SR will most likely fly out sometime during Saturday for Pensacola.  My Sailor daughter flew out of Midway Airport.

There is the slim chance that a group of Sailors may fly out on Sunday instead, but those are rare and unpredicatble.  Stay until Sunday if you can afford the extra hotel fee and don't mind exploring the Chicago area after your Sailor has already flown out~~

If my SR is going to A school in Florida how long should I plan my trip to great lakes for?
