N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

clover:  I was up there in Feb so it was brrrrr!  However, yes, we have heard that it can get a bit chilly in PIR hall so take a light jacket/sweater just in case.  Others have said it was warm in the there.  So it just depends.

Living in S. FL all of my life, where the humidity is very high most of the year.....bad hair days are an everyday occurrence down here!

Here's today's weather in GL:

Diannep, what is the weather there on the end of August? I'm thinking humid, so for sure bad hair day.... but is it cold inside of the facilities where PIR is held?

michelle:  Dressy casual is suggested, but you will see all types of dress there.  Just keep in mind that the sailors will be in their finest!  But also remember to have on comfortable walking shoes as there is a good deal of walking on base, and remember that seating is bleacher-style.   Nice jeans, casual top, dress, casual pants.....all are ok!  Tank top and shorts?  Believe it or not, you will probably see that there too!  We did....on a man....in the dead of winter (Feb) !

I am such a planner - already trying to think about what to pack for PIR  - I'm really not "such a girl" when it comes to these things, but honestly, I have no clue what to wear or what "appropriate dress" for PIR is - a dress? a summer dress? slacks and a blouse? (I wont throw out shorts and a tank top, someone might think I'm serious!!)  #worryingoverthelittlethings

Just wanted to remind you all that there is still time to order Lala's PIR ribbons to wear to PIR.  They are beautiful and reasonably priced.  If you are interested, she should be posting here soon (Lala Ribbon Queen...her ribbons are her picture icon) or find her in the MEMBERS box above and to the right.

Hi!

clover:  If a SR is being separated, he/she is allowed to call home to tell family.  However, any details of the Navy's reasons for separation, other than what the SR will tell you, is confidential between Navy/SR.  So....if a family member wants to be in on the details of the process and be able to speak to Legal on behalf of the SR, etc, that person must be named on a waiver that the SR signs. Otherwise, the Navy will release no info to anyone other than the SR/sailor.  It is up to your SR to ask to sign this waiver. There have been some rather bizarre reasons for a SR to have been discharged in the past, and many times, the parents question this and want to talk to the "powers that be" to see how their SR can fight this.  Of course, the SR meets with Legal also....but many times, the families want to be in on this as well.  The process can be quite overwhelming for many of these young SRs.  Lets hope that no one in this group is in this position during Bootcamp!

Good Morning All !

Not sure about the court marshall (LOL), but it is made very clear that they still do frown on a sunburn. :)
