Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ladies,

When your SRs finally get to call very soon, the area code will most likely show "847", but it could be any other area code so pick up all calls and if it is a solicitor, just tell them politely, "no, thank you."  Keep your cell phones near you and fully charged at all times, take it outside with you, upstairs, in the basement.  If your SR calls the home phone, have calls forwarded to your cell when you are out and about!!  If you are going to some place somewhat loud, put your phone on vibrate and then in your pocket or bra to be sure not to miss the call~~

Is anyone else's loved ones on ship 14 / div 324?  My son is and I'm just trying to connect.

Rbrown-- My son is Ship 13 Div 321 too.  See you on 30 Aug.  You too emroha2.

Comment by diannep on July 12, 2013 at 11:36pm

They can buy phone cards at the NEX with their supply card too.  But it saves them money if you can send one.

emroha:  Space in the PIR Hall is limited but if you need to bring a stroller, I believe you are allowed to.

Iri: You are very welcome on the calling card info. I just so happened to, I guess "trip" over it. And it came just in time because I got the "letter" and could mail him the PINs. I pray that the "grapevine" is right and you get a call, at least that is what my son is anticipating. Oh, and when I sent my son the phone card info. - I put the info on the little post-it notes, in case he needed to give some to others.

There needs to be a "like" button" on this site! LOL - Well really not kidding, but it would be nice to "like" another posters - post.

Eaglefan: I hope for all the families that this grapevine thing my son said is true. I know that he hopes so - so that he can call his gf. I got my call, so I am so happy today. I have to say, the "hi mom" took me by surprise...I truly wasn't expecting it and it was as if he wasn't even there...very casual. Good gosh I love that kid!
