Peggles, just a head's up- my sailor is a rescue swimmer and flew out early the day after graduation, so be ready to maybe meet him at the airport if you want a little extra time...  good luck!

My sr graduates 9/1 and that would be awesome for him to be able to stay with us overnight!
DiverMom-we are stationed at NAF Atsugi.  This is our second time to Japan.  The first time was much easier as I had all my kids with me.  We love Japan-the food, the culture and the people.  It is a great place to live and I always encourage Sailors to take orders here.  Well if you have any questions let me know.
From a "brat"'s perspective, I have to agree...one of the BEST locations we were stationed.  To this day, I keep in contact  with the people I met in Japan.  We FB one another since we are scattered world-wide.  We have reunions every 2 years in a different part of the US.  It was truly the culture that allowed us to bond so quickly and forever.  None of us ever thought we would see one another again and here we are in our 40s with children of our own, and staying in touch via modern technology.  It really is a "small world"!    :-)
what does SAR stand for??/
I believe it is Sea and Air Rescue.
I would not count on having overnight liberty they discontinued that a few months back but as we learn with the military things change and anything is possible.  I would plan on staying for the whole weekend as those that fly out could fly out at anytime from friday on as they have flights available for them. For those that stay in GL they may move quarters the day of PIR or in the days that follow. They will not know for sure until a few days prior to Pir, if they are flying out you will need to know what airport they are flying out of and what time they are going to the airport. The main thing is to learn to be flexible and not put anything in pen only in pencil as it changes.
Since there are 2 800 divisions (818, 819), will they be brother divisions? Or do they pair up 800 divisions with other numbers? Just wondering....
Yes, they should be brother divisions.
Has anyone received a letter yet?
I have not received one yet, but am sending them every day before I leave for work!  I hope it will come soon....
Thank you ochaos for the heads up about recruit privacy. I didn't think about any of that.  My son is hoping to be a Navy diver so he will be staying in GL after PIR.  Is this considered a "grad and go?"
