N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Can't believe in just over a week we'll be headed to Great Lakes!  Thanks to all the experienced Navy moms and those of you who are experiencing it for the first time, just like me.  This site and your support have been a godsend and will continue to be my lifeline up to and through PIR.

Thank you so much for the information DNavyFamily & Diannep! I know my SR initially wanted to go to Chicago, but we are trying to talk her out of that plan due to the travel time!
Steph - I know it is getting very exciting - prayers for all of them to be successful!

I so second what DNavyFamily said below!  In the Navy, if you are "on time, you are late."  My son after PIR was willing to sacrifice dinner to make sure he wasn't late....after we showed up at a shutdown restaurant courtesy of my older son's GPS 5.5 yrs ago.  My sailor was taking no chances....forget it....get me back to base.....I'll starve!  As it was, he didn't have to as we found a quick place to get a bite to eat, but once on base in the Chapel parking lot, he said BYE....and wanted to get walking to his ship (40 min early).  It takes a while for them to walk to their ships so especially for those trying to sightsee in Chicago that day, PLEASE allow plenty of time to return to the area and get your sailor on base!

Very important- and this is the hardest for loved ones- but BE EARLY- not 'just in time' but EARLY- in getting your sailor back to RTC at the end of their liberty.  If you are trying to drive back vs. shuttle- you need to add even more time.  Remember it's not just getting to the gate, it's getting back to their respective barracks quarterdeck to physically check-in.  That can be a hike.  Do not be the reason your sailor starts off their career with being written up.  And no- there's no 'grace period' like showing up to work in the civilian world.  Do the right thing and don't throw their hard work under the bus.  Be strong, say your good byes, and get them back to RTC with time to spare.  Thanks- I was a recruit once too, plus my oldest daughter and son-in-law.

I am freaking out.  9 more days.  Afraid to get overly excited, I know that feeling of complete heartbreak right before PIR,  I can't have another SR go through Fit/RCU/Seppes again... today is 6-3 so far so good... I know if he didn't pass the pfa I should get the call soon.  He needed to shave a min off the run..... afraid to start packing, and preparing to leave next wednesday...
