For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Mona,
The division numbers define a particular group of 88 recruits and are very important in identifying where they are and what they are doing. Also, it's important to write the correct division number so the SRs can receive their mail!!

@Gina - good morning and welcome to ship 14 division 274 - there Are about 7-8 of us on here that also have a FB group page as well. So glad you caught up with all of those pages! My SR said the same about their division...looking forward to getting a letter or another call that puts my mind at ease about how he's doing. Hopefully, he's reading our letters from home and being encouraged. Let's connect! Happy Thursday!

Susan: I agree with Lala....sending a larger envelope for the SRs to mail home their letters is allowed. It is a good idea! My son just "threw his letters away." Sigh....I think he would have liked to have read them again years down the road....but oh well! Wish I had been aware of this larger envelope option when he was at bootcamp back in 2009!

Gina: Teamwork is the main lesson at bootcamp and it is not an easy one for most divisions! With an average of 88 SRs starting out in each division, all ages, backgrounds, goals, personalities....living and training next to one another....even showering and "using the toilet" together....it is stressful and hard....but amazingly, they get it together and you will witness this at PIR!

SusanB, yes, you can send a manila envelope to your recruit. Lots of people have done this including me. It is great to do this about half way through boot camp so they can send back the letters they want to keep. It frees up space for more letters :) If you fold one up and add maybe 4 stamps to it and send it in a regular envelope that should be enough postage to send back the letters.

Good Morning,
I was 23 pages behind so I spent last and this morning reading all the back pages. Lol. My SR called last Saturday. ship 14 div 274. He was discouraged for sure. He said some of the div just doesn't care and of course they all pay for it. I told him to hang in there that they would learn to work together.Also he tried really hard to be prepared mentally for what was coming and I think it is still overwhelming. He said he was ok though and that he would make it. I know it will turn around in a few weeks. I'm m praying that I get another phone call and I can tell he is feeling better. :)

MamaBurt ~ I sent my SR a book of stamps and 2 phone cards. Two things I knew he could really use. Hope this helps! :)
