Kathy,

Not sure why the recruiter told you that, but it has been fine.  You could also photocopy your pics onto the backs of your letters so they won't weigh your letter down and you could put more pics (still G rated!) too.  I know newspaper articles are a no-no because the newsprint transfers onto their hands, then onto uniforms and all over the barracks.  So photocopy any newspaper articles if your SR likes those~~

The Form Letters arrive about a week or so after The Box.  Personal letters haven't come yet because a Mail Petty Officer has to be trained for each division, but once that happens, the mail should flow smoothly.  They can receive letters from you Monday - Friday, but can only mail out their letter(s) on Sundays.  Most families receive these letters on Wednesdays and Thursdays~~  It's a normal process.  Nothing to worry about!

The phone calls from your SRs are totally random.  They may tell you they have a scheduled call....it can or may not come....they can lose calls, they can earn calls.  Best to have that phone available at all times, even when in the bathroom or stepping out to get the mail.  Many put the phones in their bras during Bootcamp, just so they don't miss a call!

Veteran members, I've been sending my sailor 1 photo with every letter. They're all G rated, from pictures of our dog to us at our wedding. I spoke with his recruiter today, and he told me Not to send anymore, and that my sailor wouldn't be allowed to have the photos. Is this true? I was under the impression they were allowed to have letters/cards/photos as space permitted, as long as they met certain requirements.

Hi MommaBurt. Not sure, but I do believe they receive their mail on Sunday's. My son mentioned that recruits were waiting to use the phone before he said goodbye.
