Kathy, the only time calls do not normally come are before 1 pm on Sundays.  Other than that, calls can come at any time.  Although most can come on weekends, there are calls received during the week at times too.  Sorry that we cannot be more specific on when calls come!  They can be rewarded calls too so those are surprises!  They can also "lose" scheduled calls for one reason or another.  Hopefully your boss will understand why you need to keep your cell phone in your bra!

Catmom509- thank you so much! :) one more question, and I know that it's not got a definite answer. My boss at work has graciously offered to work with me on my schedule, if I could figure out when to be on the lookout for phone calls. Do you have any suggestions for me? Like to have off Saturday mornings, and Sunday evenings? I know calls can come whenever, on whatever day of the week. But since you mentioned seeing a pattern, I thought maybe you could help. Thanks again!

Here's an article from the Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) group which explains the Recruit leadership positions for each division.

It sounds like your SR might be the Recruit Leading Petty Officer, which is second in command assisting the Recruit Chief Petty Officer.  Both these positions are very important and if an SR can hold the position the entire time (they can be taken away by the RDCs), they can be elevated to E-2 or E-3 after the completion of Boot Camp.  Your SR will be pretty busy with this position.  With regard to the mail, it is what it is.  When you receive your first letter from him, be sure to check the postmark to see how long it is really taking.  His phones calls home may bring news to you quicker than the mail!  Please don't let the mail pace bother you so much.

The best thing I see is your SR stating that he needed more JESUS in his life and his attitude of "when one door closes, another opens"...that's from the bibilical foundation that you placed in him!!  An atheist would not say those words!!  Praise God!!  Be joyful in this news!!  Praying for you and him that your SR's walk with our Lord will continue and be strengthened.   God placed him on this path with the Navy, may he be focused on following God and His leading!!!

It is indeed an "I'm still alive" call!  Be aware that you don't only receive 3 calls during Boot Camp--it is more like 6 calls with a big radio silence between calls 4 and 5 because they are doing intense training to earn reward flags.  Some even receive more calls for personally doing well and security clearance requests (short and no chit-chat) or calls can be taken away if the division messes up.  Up to the RDCs and unpredictable!!

@Shannon & @LuvmysailorSON... I am the mom of the kid from AK who is not going to receive his mail for a long time.. he told me that it would take at least 2 weeks.. don't know why that is since we are apart of the United States.  Since his call this morning I am missing him so much more.  He said that he is second in command (although I don't know what that means).  He did say his bed was one of the comfortable ones and the food was good..  passed the swing test (thank God).. now onto the run tomorrow.  He did have to change his job choice.. will find out more about that later and not sure what he can choose or what his options are.. I am just sick about that because he was so excited and focused on that.. he did say that he believes 'when one door closes, another will open' and that he realized he needs more 'Jesus' in his life.. this from a lutheran born changed to atheist, now not sure believer.. : /  LuvmysailerSon.. please please please send him something.. anything to lift his spirits.. let him know that I have sent 7 letters already and don't know when they will arrive and that his family up here loves him!!  The kid has had a rough life.. some his choosing and others not.. I just want him to succeed.. like we all do for our kids.

Still haven't recvd his form letter, but did get 2 phone calls from my son. One on Thursday for security questions and then Friday night he got told he could have a 10 min call....great to talk to him, but I'm so confused. Everyone I've talked to who kid left on 7/8-7/9 and they received a form letter have PIR of 9/5...but he told me he is like 95% sure his is 8/29

Catmom509- question for you! Did today's round of calls count as the "I'm still alive" call that we would have gotten during week 3?

Hey @SusanB when talking to my son this morning he mentioned your son and how his mail is gonna take a long time to get to him. Looks like I have a 2 day turnaround for our mail to get to him. If you need any help with getting uplifting things to him I could always send them for you?

From past experience being on all the PIR groups over the last year+, I figured out the pattern of when calls would be coming!!  So happy for everyone!!
