OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

305:Also, saw a post from another mom on a different group state that they start firefighting next week. Does that mean they have completed "Hell Week"? Thanks in advance!

305: My SR's girlfriend got a call today!!!! He is still sick but is determined and doing his best. Keep those phones nearby today! I wish I could have gotten one, but I am happy he got to call! It must have made his day to hear her voice:)

Is that on Southwest, Kathleen?  If so, you know that they have a discount rental car code that they give you, I believe. Is that the $175 rate you mentioned?

Comment by diannep on August 22, 2015 at 4:03pm

Hmmm.....if you exposed a SR's last name in a previous post on here, please copy/paste that post deleting the last name, and then click on the "x" to delete the original post.  We are not allowed to post SRs' last names on here at all.   Thanks!

It was $300 cheaper for us to fly into Midway than into Milwaukee from where we are.  You may want to compare.  A nice rental car is still only running us $175 - still a huge savings. Plus...Chicago!  Just saying :) Too bad the Cubs are away that weekend.

Awe AWP6, it sounds like he really misses you and is hoping for that extra time with you. Even though he can't spend the night you will be able to spend Friday evening, all day Saturday and all day Sunday with him unless he has watch at some point for a few hours. Enjoy PIR weekend. It is AMAZING!!!!

Comment by diannep on August 21, 2015 at 2:48pm

Thanks for confirming, Sue.  Sorry, AWP6!  :-)

Comment by diannep on August 21, 2015 at 8:44am

Well, AWP6, you can only hope!  But I wouldn't count on it....we have not heard of any overnight Liberty during PIR weekend.  Not for a few years now!

Good Morning All !
