~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

NVYWIFE22 if your SR has gotten an award, you will be escorted to a seating area next to the stage and you will be escorted out before liberty is called...you will be presented to the honored speakers and command of RTC...it is a big deal!  Either way, it is a special day and one you will remember...keep the Kleenex handy!  LOL!

NVYWIFE22, my son was the Honor Recruit for his division...Wow!  Getting that letter must have made you very proud!  It is an honor that the division thinks of your SR so highly that they voted for him!  Congrats!!!  When you check in for Graduation, you will be escorted into a room with the other Honor Recruit and Award winners families.  The award families will be escorted to their seats and you will stay to witness your Honor Grad getting his award..and you will get to spend a few minutes with them before they have to join their Division for graduation!  It is amazing!  You will get to hug your SR before graduation!  The down side is the place they put you for graduation is not the best if you have a SR in the first three or four divisions...you won't be able to see them, but you will be able to see them when their name is announced during the graduation....it's a give and take I guess.  I was glad that many of his friends were watching  and could see him step forward as they announced him, it is emotional!  Bring tissues and be careful with the make up...he will still be in dress whites..I brought a towel from the hotel that I threw over his shoulder when I hugged him...LOL!

NVYWIFE22:  My son was not an honor graduate, but I did observe a couple things.  There is a room off of the main entry area where the families of the honor grads were gathered.  I'm not sure if the sailors were with them, as when I saw them, it was very early.  We sat next to the area that is "reserved" for the families.  It is in the middle of the hall.  The families entered shortly before the ceremony started.  They did not have to sit on the hard bleachers for long. :)  Congratulations to your husband!

Hello ladies! My name is Emily, and my husband will be graduating boot camp on 9/27! Diannep referred me to you lovely ladies in search for an answer to a question I had. From your personal experience, what does the morning of PIR look like for the families of honor recruits/award winners? The letter I received was so vague and I just want to get a better picture of what the actual award presentation/interaction with our sailors is like. If you could share the stories of you experiences I'd be so grateful! Thanks in advance...

There is also the option of the USO, but Ohare has eliminated their larger space "within" security, and even on the the outside of security, they were full up with just Sailors, which is just fine.. The most important, is that the Sailors get the rest that they need, but my daughter didnt want to take advantage, because she wanted to stay with family, and they were turning family away due to room constraints. Outside the USO (within security) there was a wonderful area with at least comfortable chairs and tables.  That way, the Sailors were able to go in and out of the USO, and get what they needed, and still close to family who were there to spend time with them

Thanks for the info, sue.  Wow...I wish I had posted on this group about the "day rate" at the Hilton there at OHare airport.  I was told by a man on a previous PIR group that the hotel is within the airport and the rate is $55 for the day.  He said it was money well spent and gave them relaxation and privacy with their new sailor.

But glad that you got so much time with your sailor...even though in an airport!  :-)

And as far as flying out, we met our Sailor at Ohare at 4am. We were at Sarge's meet and greet, and he told us the exact gate that we needed to be at. For the amount of sailors they had to process, it was pretty seemless. We were then issued boarding passes for immediate family so we could go through security with her.  She didnt fly out until 6pm, so we got to be with her for 15 hours (15 LONG hours in an airport, but I wouldnt have changed a minute)

Dianne,

This is pretty much what we were told.  My ex and I both had tickets, it was all the "extra" family we brought that we were worried about.  I didnt want to chance it..he did.  I finally prevailed, and we did NOT bring any extras.  I wasnt willing to chance anything.  We did see a number of family members waiting by the NEX, which is just down from the Chapel when we walked that way after the ceremony, so I am sure that some people did it.  The bottom line? If you park in the train parking lot, and your recruit is ready to go, you can be off base and back to your hotel to see everyone else, in a very short time.  And that way, they can watch your SR from a computer screen in the comfort of a hotel room.

For anyone passing along info to a current Bootcamp mom, this is what RTC (Public Affairs Office) said about the extras at PIR this morning in an email to me:

Ma'am,

We would like extra guests to stay off base to watch the PIR live streamed. If a guest absolutely needs to be on base and is not on the guest list they will go to the Chapel.

Respectfully,

Thanks, sue.  So your ex did not try to go to the Chapel then?  I just emailed the PAO to see what they say about it.  Thanks!

Thanks for the info, AndrewsMom.  Another lady in a past group said that there is no use to get to the airports before 4 a.m. for the reason you said....that the sailors have to check in before they can be with families.  Thanks for the info!
